In another two hundred years the Civil War will be mythologized to the point that we're going to have American comics and cartoons about Generals Ulysses and Lee duking it out in superpowered fisticuffs while soldiers on both sides get sent flying. We're already fast approaching that territory with things like "Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter".

I thought it was weird that the main cast was a bunch of lesser known actors... and Crispin Freeman. I see they kept the VA budget pretty much entirely for the villains.

Nah but seriously, I can never quite shake the feel that so much of that stuff is ripping off the Chinese Warring States period. Blame Dynasty Warriors I guess! On the western end you had the DLC for Shogun Total war, which is actually really cool; about the only game I know that even tackles a similar time-period is Raidou and mayyybe Shadow Hearts. Man, why did no-one ever LP the one where they go to America?

Hey, Sofia. You here for a nap in the sun, too? Mmm,perfect timing. Say, Avan...*inches slowly towards him* I'm in an awful fix. My poor legs are sooo stiff from today's drills. *inches closer* Would you give me a little massage? Despite her intro being "You're not my type," she's not above manipulating via charms to get favors. Sure thing! Let's take a look... Wait, I don't understand how Avan is massaging her leg- Hey, what's the big idea?! That hurt, you meat-head! Uhh, it's a massage? It's supposed to hurt. You gotta man up, Sofia. I played masseur for my mom and Leon for years. I know what I'm doing! Mm’? Well, my leg does feel a lot less tired... See? Heh, glad I could help. I'll see you in class! *leaves* ...These skits are getting weirder by the day. Speaking of weird, there's a new Lotte Insider to buy. A Ghost at the Old Campus? I've been hearing reports of "ghost" sightings in the old campus building, which is currently off-limits. All who have seen it agree that the "ghost" appears as an expressionless figure in black, who vanishes in the blink of an eye. I went in to discover the truth. Proceeding deeper into the decaying building, I came upon a figure in black looming in the darkness. I boldly attempted to question it, but it disappeared without a word. PS. I got in BIG trouble for this. Ugh, it's Melissa isn't it. Franca Quest 2 Is Avan the most sleepy protagonist or something, because I'm actually wishing for "I'm hungry" scene starter at this point. Time to conk out until my next class star-- *Door clicks open, Avan hides fast* My pleasure entirely. It's only natural we help one another as classmates. Franco and Marion... I'd better stay hidden if I don't want a lecture. I was surprised by your brother's surpassing skill in marksmanship. His performance in today's drills was nothing short of stellar. Oh, it was nothing anyone else couldn't do. That boy is soft. He holds the squad back and can't do a thing by himself. But I thought he was scouted for his talent! The scout must have had an off day. I don't see anything special in him. Even if he can aim a gun, he's still immature as a person. I don't think--- He's not someone who belongs here. If it were up to me, he'd go home. Certainly... If you'll excuse me, I think I will be going. *leaves* Come on, Franca! That's going too far! I'm gonna call her out! Hey-- I can't... If I don't act fast, he could be... What would I ever do with myself? *bell rings* Whew... Time waits for no woman. I should get back to class. *leaves* the gently caress was that about?! Mood swings galore. Wow, never thought I'd see Franco look so upset like that. Maybe I'm misreading her problem with Nichol... WHATEVER Hey, Zeri can change into a Gunner now if he wants. Which you don't unless you really hate Zeri and never want him to kill anything ever again. Noel however can be the first to promote from her class, being a more durable Lancer. Some characters get a little custom animation for promoting, like Noel doing a little bow. This is kind of a strange one, considering it's a 2-mapper with 4 turns to complete it. APC makes bridge, carries classmates, runs over sandbag cowards all day. Turrets are basically stationary Lancers with a big ole backside that's all weakpoint. EXP seems like a lot, but the level cap is 50 and the class is only at an average 7. Huff, puff, pant... Hnngh... You okay, Morris? We got another six miles to go, and no passing out without my say-so! Pack...so...heavy... It has to be tough for you ladies. Can I help you carry something? M-M?! I just... There's no chivalry in war! Think the enemy'll just let these ladies so?! W-Well, no... There's no man or woman, rich or poor, or race out there. Just alive or dead. If you want to stay in the former camp, then shut up and walk! Y-Y-Yes, sir! Raymond... Thank you, but... I'll be... fine... I know you will. It's hard, but you can make it. I believe in you! Rod, why aren't you in more skits. Erik Quest 2 I wanted to speak with you about Erik Kampmann. Oh yeah? What about him? I've received complaints about his conduct from others in the class. Especially in regards to a tendency to violence and a lack of cooperation. They say they aren't comfortable fighting alongside him. Friction in the class will only lead to problems in the field, Avan. I need you to be aware that this may have life or death consequences. I am. Thanks for the reminder, though. I'll try talking to him. Please do. I hope you're able to resolve this matter quickly. *later that day* He was back here last time. Maybe... Hm? Sounds like it's coming from over here. *bird tweets* Sheesh, you sure eat a ton. How do you even set off the ground? That's right... Take your time, little guy. Nobody's taking your food. *bird tweets* Heh, how's it taste? Wow...*falls out of hiding place* Who's there?! Wow, Erik! You're amazing! Haw?! Birds are super skittish by nature. They rarely take to people like that. But they were all over you! What're you talking about? You've sot to be a nice guy underneath it all, or they'd never act that way. H-Hey, shut up! Stay out of my drat business! Ha ha! Oh, don't get mad! You were having fun a second ago, weren't you? So, why do you snap at the others instead of treating them like these birds? Huh? Sorry, I didn't quite catch that? Forget it! And would you just leave me alone? *runs away* I'm really pretty sure he's not a bad guy. Hmm... GET BENT!!! Meet Class G's Chair: Avan Hardins Avan's what you call "overpowered." Not only can he change his base class at will, have the highest HP, returns immediately if he falls in combat, gives 1 extra CP per turn... Also he's one of the few that has all positive Personal Potentials, with multiple ones that increase power against infantry and 1 that increase defense as his HP ever goes below half. He would easily be promoted now if I actually use him.

New Armor available in the tier 3 section. The AA-1 is defensively weaker than the standard tier 3 armor, but it has an A in Ail and Sup resistance. Ailment is status effects like Defense Down and Attack Down, while Suppressive is AP Use Up which any gun can inflict (The reason why half the Engineer potentials involve increasing status chance). It's worth it to equip because interception fire is a very common thing to go through, and being hit by status effects that affect your ability to one-turn kill is far more devastating than potential kinda dying. Me? What did you do this time? Nothing! And what do you mean by "this time"? Oh, he said he wanted you to come too, Zeri. Zeri, stop trying to own people because this game has a very temperament karma system. What? Search me. I guess we'll know when we get there. Knock knock, teach. Hello, Avan. Zeri. Thank you for coming. You have new orders. A Gallian government disnitary is visiting the south. We've received a request for an escort squad. We'll be guarding a VIP? That's right. The task has fallen to Class G. That sounds really dumb. Sir, do you think we'll be sufficient? Sufficient, Zeri? Class G still needs a lot of training. I'm worried this mission is above us. Perhaps so. If your luck is bad, you may lose a few people out there. But such is war. It's hardly out of place for a soldier to die in the line of duty, hm? That is so, but, sir... In fact, I would ask you all to approach this as a matter of life or death. The moment you all walked onto campus, you became Galllan soldiers. Cast away any illusions of comfort now. There are no guarantees to comfort you. Um... Where the hell was this speech when we actually had our first life-or-death mission? Your task is to succeed in this mission at any cost. No more. no less. Now, if there are no other issues, prepare to sortie. This is what I mean by the rebel thing being essentially pointless to already introduce in the beginning, because stuff like Hubert's speech really confuses just what they're going for. I've always said introducing the rebels in March would help the pacing way more. Class G will escort them via armored vehicle to their destination. A Gallian Army tank will be joining you. You are to work in concert with it. A tank's coming? Makes things pretty easy for us, doesn't it? That's the sort of hubris that kills a squad. Keep your guard up. Lanseal's bell has tolled. Squad G, move out. *later that day, in the forest* pfffffft Armed escort confirmed! We believe they're from Lanseal, sir! What is with the rebels having the most ridiculous armor in the world? I'd expected more than just children from the tone of Father's orders. Dirk! Take your men and secure the target! Put any who set in your way to those azure flames! ...Understood. Azure flames? ...Oh poo poo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljTUM1Vy_vI THEY HAVE GODDAMN VALKYRIANS Avan! The army tank is completely destroyed! If a human target were hit by that beam attack, there'd be nothing left. I don't even know what they ARE! Combat formation, people! C'mon! We're under attack by a squad of Valkyrians, in this mission that has probably the biggest difficulty spike in any game. Class G has to escort an APC across 3 maps while surviving an ambush. So here's a few reasons why this mission is extremely hard compared to what we've been facing now. #1: Lavinia is essentially garbage. Escort APC missions require her to be out at all times in the shittiest APC possible with a Gatling turret that fires 7 shots. Scouts are terminators compared to this thing. #2: This APC also costs 2 CP. Why? Because Valkyria Chronicles 2. V2 are the non-Dirk Valkyrians. They have a shield like Armor Techs, have huge HP, they shoot like Scouts but hit like Lancers, also they are invincible until you destroy a nearby APC power supply. Which at this point, our Lancers need about 3 shots to kill from the side. GREAT. The map starts in two spots, with one being the standard launching pad. The other spot is where the APC is, surrounded by a V2, Dirk, two Lancers, and the supply APC. Did I mention each hit from the Valkyrians take 1/8th of the APC's health and they fire like 10 shots each time? #3: An APC can only change maps once a camp gate is secured, but since the APC escort has to be out at all times, changing a map ends its turn and starts off in the new map. So your CP is even less than you think. Next time, tackling the actual mission because the game is pretty much this from now on and there's lots of tricks to employ that'll be the core of future tactics. Enemy Uniforms

Ah yes, those things. I dislike everything about them both gameplay and storywise; their origin is stupid and in the field they're huge pain in the neck. They're what made me quit playing the game because there's a later mission where you have to defend against half a dozen of those, which given how the low deployment limits makes holding a position hard, was way too frustrating for me. I used cheats to give me enough CP and skip the grind so I could see the end but I believe the game could have been better by cutting out the whole Valkyria DBZ unit thing.

No one's thought of that yet/the person is a necessary component for the Ragnite Shields to work. Those are kind of necessary when you're slinging death beams around since then your tank will get stolen and now you've got death-tanks on both sides that can blow each other up. Plus now the other side is closer to the Death-Beam Invincible Tank than they were and they might get it first. I just wish the power APC's didn't have so much armor. I remember getting through this mission but dang if I remember how.

You shoot them with lancers? I always went for headshots from behind with either snipers or shocktroopers. It's easy enough to get them to face the way you need them to with armor techs, although it uses a lot of CP to switch back and forth. Personally, I felt that this is the moment when the game got fun. I love going up against unfair odds. Clarste fucked around with this message at 19:48 on Apr 15, 2015 |

Ardeem posted:I just promoted Alexis and fed them all to his sword. Well, yes. Fencers laugh at V2s with their own shields, and then cleave them in two once you've brought down the Power APCs. It's of course how you A Rank this mission later on - them along with Mobile Lancers. But at this point you'd be lucky to have either without serious, serious grinding. The real trick of course is balancing how to move the Escort APC while still saving enough AP to eliminate the threats to it. You basically have to get it out of the first section turn one though, as Dirk, the other V2 in that section, as well as a lancer or two will shred it otherwise, so that's 4 AP down the drain right there.
