Free to roam the heavens in man's noble quest to investigate the weirdness of the universe!

I'd watch Deadpool as Mary Poppins.

Nah, the script is actually really strong and smart. None of the garbage like that poster has. Closer to the Posehn run on the comics than the Way one.

Like, I hate the "anything is inherently funny with Deadpool" idea too, but him floating on an umbrella like Mary Poppins is pretty funny.

The true insufferability will be the inevitable 'yes, but is it funny?' arguments.

Which, yeah, this is only the appetizer.

Okay, to actually say why that poster works for me and Daniel Way's run really doesn't: the Way run feels like it's constantly drawing attention to how wacky and zany it is, and it just tries too hard.

There's no explaining the joke in that poster, there's no grating 4th wall poo poo, it's just him doing something silly. It's comparatively understated, so it made me chuckle instead of raising my blood pressure.

The new Deadpool movie is based on a script that is considered pretty good and not filled with lol random monkey cheese stuff that fans like to associate with the character. One of those fans however did make this unofficial poster:

This looks pretty good, but honestly I'm more worried about the bottom tiers of fans who are going to quote and otherwise co-opt the movie as part of their cultural identity than I am anything about the movie itself, much in the same way they did for Heath Ledger's Joker, Monty Python, and pretty much anything you can picture "that guy" doing and liking.

You have described exactly what concerns me about this film and anything like it. Deadpool could be fantastic. I could go for a self-aware and absurdist take on a superhero movie.

But this particular genre of nerd will destroy it, as they have destroyed many things, through ad nauseum repetition and arrogant territoriality over the source text.

(Monty Python is definitely the archetype. It's been 45 years; the goddamn dead parrot was only kind of funny then, and now just shut up. Shut up. Oh god, shut up.)

The only saving grace is that Deadpool fans are so obnoxious that it should read cultural saturation fairly quickly and generate a backlash almost as fast. Still, he and Harley Quinn are at least better than the Joker because they have some pathos built into their backstories and aren't total ciphers. The Dark Knight mimicry around 2008-2009 was pure torture for me.

Nah, the jetpack is for the ending, where the Rock flies into space and turns back time to undo the disaster.

You steal one to lift a casino truck with a magnet, in the casino heist missions, remember?

I wonder if the Rock'll have to do a series of difficult flight exercises perfectly before the movie lets him proceed.
