Yeah Jojo isn't nearly as detailed to an OCD extent as berserk is.

Diabetic posted:Jojo started around the same time, has as much detail, and is published on a consistent basis. At this point, I would take a paragraph summary just to get more than what we've gotten in the last 9 years. I've followed this series from when I saw dreamcast preview screenshots... Jojo is great but it wishes it had as much detail as Berserk, that would be some next-level fabulousness. In any case, I hope Miura gets out of his funk sometime in this decade.

I feel like the art in Berserk has actually gone down in quality lately. He's drawing too much and it is hard to discern what the hell is going on. 95% of the panels are filled in. He used to have much more whitespace on his stuff and would spread out action scenes.

I am more confident Berserk will be finished before Ice and Fire. If only because he is presumably a not gigantically overweight elderly man.

I do wonder how Young Animal feels about the sporadic nature of his publishing. I admit I know very little about the magazine but I imagine they prefer the jump in sales when he makes a new chapter.

The longer the amount of time between updates, the less I give a drat about the entire series. I mean, I thought it was bad a few years ago when there was only 8 or 9 chapters a year. I look at skullknight forums and see the endless speculation and really that's all we're left with now due to the complete lack of releases. I'll keep checking back but I'm not impressed by the artist detail anymore, I just want the story to move forward again.

I imagine it's a situation like Togashi's where he makes them so much money when he does do something that, combined with extenuating circumstance due to health/whatever, they don't really hassle him about the schedule. Jimmybob posted:I'll keep checking back but I'm not impressed by the artist detail anymore, I just want the story to move forward again. I feel the same way, but honestly the conclusion I came to was if that's your reason it's just not worth following Berserk. The actual writing as-such peaked in the Golden Age anyways, and in particular everything since the Emperor's death has been 90% spectacle and 10% "maybe Farnese or Serpico will have some vague semblance of a character arc within the next decade." I like to compare it to Vinland Saga which has a similar amount of detail to just post-Golden Age Berserk and is a lot more palatable than current Berserk.

It's too bad he can't just write and illustrate a few novels to wrap up the series, provide nice art, and get back to his real passion of urinating vocaloid children or whatever.

SatansBestBuddy posted:The first two movies really struggle with that, and some scenes get it right (Guts first fight with the band of the Hawk) and are able to be their own movie while still telling the same story as the manga, but then other scenes aren't sure of how to make that balance work, like the calvary battle at the start of the second movie, which again resorts to more manga style storytelling and pacing for a when Guts and Casca fall off the cliff. It's loving weird how some scenes are engaging and really well done (the assassination in the first film comes to mind) and then there's stuff like extended ballroom dancing, removing Godo/any mention of Guts time spent away from the Hawks, replacing Zodd with a flag pole toss in the Boscogn duel (seriously ), no Bonfire of Dreams, etc. I get that doing three movies with that amount of material is no easy task, but, god drat, to me it felt like they really missed the mark.

This is probably the most pragmatic path to take. Berserk was based on Guin Saga, it might as well end like it. Each volume of Guin Saga has a painted cover and frontispiece, and 5-10 b&w illustrations. There's no lack of key visuals.

The fight with the fake apostles in the tower. I loved how Guts was drawn almost move for move in those two page spreads. Anything from 20-27 is the best poo poo in Berserk. I always thought the art was the best during those volumes.
