"The only reason Cuba is full of commies is that we haven't brought the free market to it" is a valid conservative position at the moment.

Interestingly, I heard this woman's sentiment from my friends/coworkers when the news first came out. Numerous white, educated, mid-30s professionals talking about how they had to get to Cuba before opening the borders 'ruined' it. They basically think it's a living museum and that's what makes it valuable. I got the sense they saw it as 1950s themed Disneyland and the people as costumed employees.

Canadians feel this way too but it's because Cuba is the last vacation destination where you can go and not be surrounded by Americans.

This is literally the GOP strategy. They think that minorities are all idiots who vote based entirely on the candidates race or ethnic background.

More importantly than that, they believe that Latinos are fungible and that (the children of) people who fled Cuba under loving Batista have anything in common with say, Mexican migrant workers, or Puerto Ricans. At least Castro-era emigrants can find common cause with Soviet defectors, I'm racking my brain to come with something remotely analogous to Batista-era Cuba.

Hillary went negative early, pointedly engaging in the crude absorption of nutrient molecules. Rubio unfortunately took the bait, repeating "I am descended from life forms. I am a product of sexual reproduction" into a microphone for three hours. Vote Actual Human 2016

I really like seeing conservative cartoonists treat immigrants and minorities as either savvy political allies or filthy mustache disease hordes depending solely and transparently upon the proximity of a general election and/or amnesty bill, and I hope this surefire tactic continues to be used.

This coupled with presidential nominees saying "We gotta talk to these people!" then never actually doing it makes it for me.

No, aping Ramirez's style, in a black-and-white cartoon, would result in an indecipherable mess of lines, because Ramirez absolutely sucks at spotting highlights and shadows. He wouldn't be able to fool as many of his fellow cartoonists into thinking he's any good, these days, if he didn't have the benefit of color.
