Yuns posted:Super fun. It's about 340 lbs or so fully fueled which makes it 80-120 lbs lighter than the superbikes/supersports. It also super super narrow. The geometry is pure sportbike but the ergos are a bit more relaxed. Given the light weight and chassis geometry you'd expect it to be super fast side to side but it's actually quite stable. The seat is the same height as most sportbikes at 32.3 inches but the footpegs are a touch lower than the superbikes making it pretty accommodating for long legs. Personally, I like high and committed rearsets so I'll likely switch the footpegs for the RC390 cup ones. 43 hp is plenty sufficient and the motor has a good midrange but if you're coming from a superbike it does feel down on power. You need to work the gears a bit more. The bike would be even better with maybe 20 more hp but the power to weight is already class leading among the R3 CBR300 Ninja 300 etc. Suspension is compliant as noted in many reviews and at 180 lbs I didn't have too many complaints so far about the suspension. We'll see once I push it a bit more. Brakes are a bit soft compared to radially mounted monobloc double disc fronts of the superbikes but they are adequate and I won't be able to really opine until they bed in and I use them a bit more. It is a bike that's obviously built to a price point but it doesn't seem too cheaply built at all. If that was available last year when I got my Ninja 300 I might have got one. Very envious right now. Only advantages to the ninja I can think of:

I like the system the banshee has where the normal comedy horn works if you only tap at it, but if you hit the button for more than 1/5 of a second it engages the real deal. Fwiw, I was also considering an mp3 solution so I could use any sound (screaming children, angry expletives, fart noises), but 120dB+ speakers aren't very compact or waterproof I think.

If you really want to be safe pull the spark plug and turn the engine over a few times, but usually you'd only bother doing that if the bike took a swim.

It'll be nice, because most of the stuff is still good, I think the other engine has a bad crank or something. While he was looking into parts and whatnot he discovered that...being the development platform for the GSXR line pretty much everything is a bolt on swap for the first 2 generations of the busas. So, providing Engine/Transmission can be made to fit without compromising structural integrity I'm going to swap out the powertrain from a GSXR750 into the spare bike, same with the swingarm (rear springs are nearly identical save for the adjustable pre-load on the Tempter...which is still one of the things I love about that bike). Then it's just a matter of 16 inch wheels and tires and fine tuning and I will have created the missing link between the two bikes. Just need to cruise insurance sales for a 750 and I'll be on my way. Also, In other rad news...found a guy in Colorado that's willing to give me the fuel tank off his Tempter @Cost of shipping. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=823512 Because he doesn't need it anymore after an apparently awesome build. So Color Swap on the stock Tempter is happening. Think I'm going to try and do something similar to the 2015 Vulcans...White Black Green is super rad looking especially when it's flat.

I bought a thing -  2000 KLR 250, visually a little rough but mechanically sound. Already have a full tune up (and paint) ordered and on the way including sprockets, exhaust, dynojet, new seat cover, skid plate, ect...I'm pretty stoked for my first dual sport, now I have finally have something to go explore offroad with my spouse and his WR250R!

The reach isn't as bad as it looks, but the seat is slick enough that I end up all the way forward unless I concentrate on gripping the tank with my knees. I loving love the bike. There's some awkward stuff I need to figure out due to my size, like the pegs basically push right against my calves when I have my feet down, and putting the kickstand down is a fuckin' drama, but when I'm moving it's amazing. It wasn't my first choice of a bike (I really was looking for an 1100 EVO with ABS, or a 2010 M1100 ABS) but the sellers in the area were weird as hell and wanted $10k or more for the non-S model EVOs when the bike, brand new, was something like $11.9k. It was hard to justify paying that when you could get a brand-spanking new M821 that technically has more power and better service intervals for like $1k more. This was a much, much better price and I was able to snag it from a guy who took really good care of it. I'm looking forward to finding a good suspension shop in the area and having them set it up for American Goon (aka "a Fat-rear end").
