I like the guys' observation on the news kids. So far there isn't really much to them at all(although they're still cool design wise). Then again, MK shouldn't be looked upon as some pinnacle of storytelling. Or should it rise up to the challenge? I should probably be worried too, since I knew as soon as Pat started talking about him that Quan Chi's very first appearance in the franchise was actually Defenders of the Realm (the kids cartoon) rather than MK Mythologies. I get a little fuzzy on the newer ones, but I know way more about the "lore" than I should. Kimmalah fucked around with this message at 23:51 on Apr 18, 2015 |

After finally having some experience with Bloodborne, I started watching Pat and Woolie's videos of it and of course one of the very first things Pat does is book it past the werewolf that's supposed to kill you and runs through town without a weapon or anything. I didn't know those axe/torch guys can climb ladders after you.

I love how long it took them to notice that was Li Mei, to the point that Matt was joking about how silly it would be after she'd already mentioned her name. Running past enemies is kind of an old Souls game standby, usually if you're just focusing on killing a boss and don't want to risk dying/using your healing items on regular guys. Most of the Bloodborne levels I've played seem built with this in mind once you open all the shortcuts. Of course with Pat it was more of a pride thing I think, although it didn't make much sense when he didn't have any weapons or items at all. Even Fromsoft is not that cruel. It's really a hybrid, where the bloodvials are an item you have to farm for, but you can only carry 20 instead of 99. They're more like grass overall though, since enemies drop them frequently and healing too frequently can mean grinding for more.

I think Liam mentioned that your Bloodvials should just refile like Estus and I have to agree because it really doesn't add much that they're so limited.

On the other hand, I enjoy the fact that I can just keep on exploring different areas without having to rest to refill my vials (and respawn all the enemies I killed). Enemies drop blood vials so often that I can just keep on going however long I like without stopping or having to kill the same stuff all over. So in that sense I think it adds something. The regain thing is also a big help and has saved me a lot of vials.

I think Matt and Pat are the only 2 people on this planet that I've seen that can take apart the individual parts of a puzzle, know every facet of the puzzle and how it works, know the solution 100%, and still not solve the puzzle.

I'm fine with them not grabbing the shotgun (talking about the latest Rev2 episode) because for Barry the shotgun's just not very useful and since it's in the last episode you never really get a good stock of ammo for it... but drat, it is astounding to me that they completely solved the puzzle and then didn't solve the puzzle. They solved the REAL puzzle by accident while trying to figure out how to do the optional one!

I think they just forgot that you could pull the switch the platform is already at to send it to the opposite side, or they never put together that that's what they were doing in the first place.

See I figured they were gonna do it the hard (but still working) way when Pat told Matt to go back across to the other side, but then it turned out it was because he wanted Matt to ride on the top, not to have Matt put the platform on the other side while he rode it across, and my excitement deflated like a wilting erection. I like the puzzles in RE: Rev2, they're a good combination of the easy stuff like "put item in this door = you can go through door" and the harder stuff like the crane switch fuckery.

Tae posted:Are they not at a point yet where they can just buy a poo poo ton of vials? They have always been able to buy them and the vials are fairly cheap too. There is really no reason to ever run with under 20 blood vials or less than full health. It will probably take a while before they realize that, like lifegems in DS2, you should always have a shitton of vials on you.

Tae posted:Are they not at a point yet where they can just buy a poo poo ton of vials? They are. Just get some souls and buy them from the merchant in the hunter's dream. They are never that expensive. Right now they shouldn't be more then 360 echoes a vial. The price goes up as you go farther along in the game. They always restore 40% of your health. Think the costs are like 180 (start), 360 (after the cathedral ward video), 540, and finally 720. They increase in price when plot thing happens.

doing repeat attempts at a boss results in having no souls for buying the vials and also in a shortage thereof i'm pretty deep in the game and often find myself choosing between a level up and stock piling a ton of vials for the next boss

hubris.height posted:doing repeat attempts at a boss results in having no souls for buying the vials and also in a shortage thereof That's why you save all those consumable items that give you souls until you really need them and don't want to grind. A single level really isn't much in the grand scheme of things so I would always choose the vials in that situation. After a while I just stopped running out of vials though. That said, they really should have just used the system from DS1. Vials (or ammo to be honest) being consumable doesn't really bring anything to the table, it's mostly just an annoyance.

The Kirkhammer is awesome, but the hammer part of it has such an insanely short range that it's pretty much useless against the creepier enemies who have big giant multiple-jointed scraggly arms.

Kirkhammer has that whole sweet spot thing and none of the other really heavy weapons have to contend with that so it ends up just being straight up worse for some reason.

You can blame HighVoltageSoftware for that. The bastards utterly ruin every game they get their hands on to port to PC, and they get a lot of loving games considering the quality. I hope the Best Friends mention this at some point, it's utterly baffling how companies keep going back to HVS just to get a cheap rear end buggy port out. Even the cutscenes in MKX are all messed up and waaaaay too dark.
