It appears to be an actual pinkish color used, but combined with the halftone pattern used for the black-and-white version, it becomes some weird skin condition. Right color, applied poorly.

Absolutely. The web versions of the dailies are obviously colored after the art is locked down, and this makes a great case that they should cut that crap out. The first time we saw this particular mistake was with Funky in the gym. Considering how decrepit he looks, it's a really unfortunate place to try for red and get lavender.

The entire story arc with Chatu kidnapping Phantom's wife and all the side stuff with Savarna and everything was legitimately entertaining. It's too bad we can't get more of that. The story with the Icelandic silver thief should have been a main story instead of a Sunday thing; there's a lot of potential there if they did the whole story in detail with the framing device of Kit telling the whole thing to his kids.

The only thing I don't hate about Nancy right now is Oona who actually has an interesting design and rarely says stupid things. Everything else about this plotline can go straight to heck though. Edit: And how did he mess up Wimpy? He's not exactly a hard character to write.

No, all animals (except humans) identify all other animals by them, and not by any other means, so if you get some dog pheromones and put them on your cat then all the other animals will think the cat is a dog. That's just science.
