I've been such a huge cheerleader for the buses in this thread because of this. The only big negatives I've ever experienced consistently in my many trips to Vegas are the cab rides. Smelly, badly maintained cars and minivans, driven recklessly with calculatedly long rip-off routes by people with rehearsed sob stories to milk you for tips. Without fail, this describes every single cab ride I've ever had there. Skipping the cabs on my last trip in favor of the on-time, hassle-free public transit was a revelation and it was my favorite trip to Vegas so far.

Well when I found out that Kabuto doesn't do lunch a cabbie brought me to Sushi Kaya which turns out is two blocks down the street from it. $20 all you can eat lunch and it was fantastic. As for a trip report, I can't really do one yet, since last weekends trip is still ongoing in a way, except i'm in LA now. Its been pretty lucky. But I did bring a bathroom attendant chicken strips and fries and wound up getting me and my friends into a $6k Cabana at the Encore for free.

Back from my 2 nights at the SLS. Really enjoyed the World Tower room and the hotel overall. A bit removed from the action of the strip but the monorail/cabs make it easy to get around so no big deal. Stopped at Alien Fresh Jerkey and Mad Greek for a gyro on the way back. I am ~$1000 poorer. Twas a nice weekend.

I actually had our cabbie from the airport ask us if we wanted to go surface streets or highway to the Cosmopolitan, which I thought was nice. Last time they didn't even offer. I told him surface streets (mid afternoon on a Saturday, almost 0 traffic) and while he kinda said something about the highway being faster, I politely reiterated that "along the Strip will be fine" and left it at that. Ended up being like $10 cheaper than the last time we got long hauled. Fuckers.

I've seen MJOne, Ka', and Zarkana. I'm thinking between Beatles and Blue Man. Anyone have an opinion? (gently caress Criss Angel)

People who think Uber is god's gift to Vegas are pretty stupid. There's a million cabs on the strip and going from A to B is really short usually. Longhauls only happen to'/from the airport. Simply saying don't take the freeway avoids that. Let's not forget that there are plenty of shady Uber drivers. And then couple that with all the drunk people (think 3-4am when clubs close) and I bet everyone steals everyone's uber. Oh yeah and surge pricing would be 24/7 on the strip. The real benefit would be for locals who need to take a taxi somewhere off strip. It's drat near impossible to get a cab to come to your house or a bar that isn't near the strip.

Just got back from a great weekend in Vegas. Few notes: 1. Checked in at MGM and did the $20 trick. Just said "Hey my girlfriend is coming into town, I want to impress her, any other rooms available". Guy initially said they had nothing then got the assistant manager. He was totally chill about it, said an upgrade to a corner suite with separate bedroom was $75 and the penthouse suite was $200, but that he'd waive the corner suite cost for me. So I ended up with a beautiful suite. Always do the $20 trick. Don't feel guilty or awkward, you tip everyone else in Vegas. Same thing for smaller parties like a beach party. Especially in Vegas, everyone knows the game. At nightclubs it's a whole different animal. I think I tried that once and they wanted like $100 a head to help us cut the line. 2. Went to Hakkasan Friday night when Tiesto was playing. Got there early. Couldn't recommend doing so more. It's less crowded so we got in immediately, you can easily get drinks at the bar and there are packs of girls standing around waiting to be talked up. Fell in love with a beautiful Colombian girl I spent the rest of the night with. The quality of the crowd was a lot better, a lot more people there on vacation than locals there to rave. The number of people who have seen Tiesto already has to be approaching a billion. 3. Day parties are overrated. Go to some chill pool and talk to some girls and recruit them to go out with you that night instead of blacking out at 2 in the afternoon. 4. We had bought tickets on wanttickets and went to Omnia to see Martin Garrix. The line if you had a ticket was 2 minutes while the general line was literally like 1,000 people. People are loving stupid. We got there at 11:30PM but the place was already insanely crowded. The dance floor crowd was much more local ravers. I think Garrix is a trendier name, and the crowd was much less fun and way more aggressive about being packed sardines on the dance floor. Ended up meeting a local girl who showed me a whole other room there I wasn't aware of that was way more chill. Ended up going back to my place, consuming various substances on various body parts of each other and walking to the Paris buffet at 7AM. I thought the clubs were OK, I missed the inside-outside nature of XS, Surrender, Tryst and Marquee?, as long as you don't get stuck outside when they hit capacity. I didn't see what was so special about Omnia, I still think XS is way better, both for the club and for the guests. At XS the tiered rings of tables allows more room to dance outside the dance floor, the dance floor is bigger, the bar has a better view because of the tiered setup and you have the whole outside pool area.

"GA"=General Admission. I can't repeat it enough times. If you're going to go, buy tickets in advance. Also explore, normally there's whole rooms and areas you might never realize are there that are way more fun. Just be conscious of what directions they close as the night goes on, like XS not letting people from the pool area back inside unless you have a table. I've seen people try and barrel through security or be pulled up by friends. I had a far better time at Hakkasan on Friday night when it was "pretty crowded" (they still stopped access to the dance floor periodically, hard to maneuver) than Omnia, where you were completely unable to dance and people were constantly aggressively jostling you. Getting a girl to leave her group of friends at a night club is a frustrating nightmare. Those are pretty strong words, I'm just going by my anecdotal experience. I spent the second evening with a local "raver" who was there with ~20 friends in the back corner of the dance floor. Maybe you wouldn't consider them locals, they lived 40 minutes driving away. I don't know what the definition of "ravers" are but they were all young (21) kids on lots of molly. She knew a lot of the other people on the dance floor. When I was in the front of the crowd everyone within a 10 foot radius of me was short and Mexican and certainly did not look like your average Vegas vacationer. The people in the bottle service areas were certainly your normal weekenders. Just my experience man, I believe you overall. I used the monorail for the first time! Consider it for transportation, it was actually pretty efficient for our needs. The worst feeling is when you leave your hotel to start your night around 10-11PM or end it around 2-4AM and there's a taxi line a mile long. If you have a large party Jay could probably help you arrange a limo. Jay, what do you mean "Omnia shits on XS in terms of pure aesthetics? I guess XS does lack some of the cold air blasters/confetti/snow that Marquee and Omnia have. As a commoner I like XS because there's lots of little places you can find to stand with a view of the stage. And getting stuck outside and dancing behind the dj isn't the worst thing in the world, especially if you're on drugs and just want some room to move. Given it was my first time at Omnia I probably missed out on a lot. It always takes me a few trips to learn there's more to the club that the main dance floor and surrounding bars. Last time I was in Vegas I used Uber a few times(it was also my first time ever using Uber) to get back to my hotel on the strip after eating at some of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at. Off the strip is such a gem and I wish you didn't have to rent a car or take a cab to practically get out there. I am now telling people I know that are visiting that they have to get off the strip even if it's just for a meal. Most of those restaurants are better then the stupidly expensive ones on the strip and are almost always cheaper. It's also nice to get out and talk to the locals.
