Turns out it's a late 80s thing but it's close. Jurassic Park was totally a ripoff and didn't even have the rad train

Acaila posted:I found two hours of UK tv ads from the 90s on youtube last week. So much nostalgia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5jGlMSffp0 There is one advert from the late 1990s (it might have been the very early 2000s; I'm not sure) which has stuck in my mind for years, which nobody else I've ever spoken to can remember. It was a kind of found footage thing, set in a Piggly Wiggly supermarket (I distinctly remember that being the name and it's very odd, because that's a chain that has zero presence whatsoever in the United Kingdom), presenting a man wearing a large, garish Chinese dragon mask stalking about the store and terrorising customers. You'd see things like someone walking their trolley off screen, followed by the unmanned trolley rolling back into view because the fellow had seemingly jumped out and grabbed them. The last shot I recall was the guy being marched out and pushed into a police car, still wearing the mask. I can't even remember what it was advertising, or even what on Earth it could have been advertising; maybe it was a true crime or reality TV thing, and I've been conflating it with an advertisement all this time? It was the most bizarre thing, but it made an impression on my young mind.

My cousin won a more local version of that when I was a kid. You just got one cart and there was no time limit but you got only what you could fit in the cart, then the store matched the dollar value of the toys and donated that much to a charity that gave toys to poor kids or whatever. He did it with a few other kids and I remember thinking they all hosed up. They wen't for stuff like big LEGO sets, which are awesome but take up a ton of space. My cousin exclusively wen't for action figures. He was the only kid who had actual squads of stormtroopers. He also got a bunch of those kung fu fighting rock em sock em robot things which were really cool. The real winner was me because his mom made him get rid of a bunch of stuff so I got his massive amount of 80's GI Joes and Star Wars figures which would later be worth a bunch of cash when eBay became a thing.

Not so sure on Kenmore these days. K-Mart only bought Sears to get their hands on the Craftsman brand. I know there are other manufacturers of tools out there, but I'll take a Craftsman product over a Dewalt. Just how I was raised. Plus, it drilled it into our heads that Air Conditioner = Sears. I'm not sure if they still do home installs for them anymore.
