Back in the '80s there used to be a garage in Salem MA that specialized in Bugattis, I remember seeing them going in and out all the time - they were magnificent, and the sound of those engines would bring tears to your eyes. Where in Salem? I just moved out of the city.

They spent that much on tires and wheels that don't fit, but they can't spare a few bucks to fix the front splitter with some Forever Black.

Halfway through, I went to fix us both a coke float.
By the time I got back, he'd gone insane.
Plus, he'd left the gate open and there was evil everywhere.

My grandfather had a V8 SD1 when I was about 5-6 years old and it was amazing to me then. Of course in retrospect it was a terrible piece of British Leyland crap but ehh. You must have heard about this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1BnhZsS8a0

The fact that they basically stole the design from the Ferrari Daytona probably helped.

Can anyone tell me the appeal of the Daytona? I keep seeing it heralded as some sort of amazing design but i rank it equal with the Mondial for fugliness.

Yeah I have seen that, but it never gets old! I kinda hate the front bumper on it, however doing 150 mph at 2000 rpm probably means that you can forgive it's ugliness (more ugly than a regular SD1 anyway)

Like so much from that period, it's actually a pretty good design/car that was completely and utterly torpedoed by build quality like a box of Lego in a room full of ADHD primary school kids.

What are the boxes on the shock towers? Adaptive dampening?

jamal

I'll set the building on fire
Not so much adaptive, but adjustable from in the car. Tein and Cusco both have a system for it.

Personally I've always thought that was kind of dumb, because for a given corner weight and spring there is one pretty narrow window of optimum damper setup. Plus all most of those do is adjust high speed rebound, which basically just makes the car feel really stiff when you have too much without actually improving the handling.

Thoughts on the motorcycle systems that do it now? Everything I've heard from fast track guys is good...

I liked the S1 episode of "For the love of cars" where they took a Triumph Stag and actually rebuilt the engine to the specification it was supposed to have had out of the factory and it suddenly became a reliable, free-revving V8. :v:

I agree the styling isn't the best ever, but it doesn't look bad either. The only thing I really never liked on it was how they did the front blinkers, but there's nothing wrong about the overall shape. They just didn't go bonkers artistic on it.

Don't be so quick to judge that, I have a friend who flew a few states away and drove back an old Nova he bought with his own money. He was 14 at the time. He's like 21 now and is almost done building a 37 model t hot rod

He may well have bought it. I didn't have much time to talk to him. What I meant to say was that I can't imagine he had built it himself. The paint and general flavor of that car reeks of late 80's to early 90's and the driver couldn't have been older than 30. I imagined that inheriting it was probably the most likely way a guy that young would come by a car like that. Doesn't much matter anyhow.
