They spent that much on tires and wheels that don't fit, but they can't spare a few bucks to fix the front splitter with some Forever Black.

I finally read the much recommended "Go Like Hell." I always vaguely knew the names Gurney, McLaren and Foyt etc were associated with the GT40. Now I know who Ken Miles was.

My grandfather had a V8 SD1 when I was about 5-6 years old and it was amazing to me then. Of course in retrospect it was a terrible piece of British Leyland crap but ehh. You must have heard about this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1BnhZsS8a0

The fact that they basically stole the design from the Ferrari Daytona probably helped.

Can anyone tell me the appeal of the Daytona? I keep seeing it heralded as some sort of amazing design but i rank it equal with the Mondial for fugliness.

I kinda hate the front bumper on it, however doing 150 mph at 2000 rpm probably means that you can forgive it's ugliness (more ugly than a regular SD1 anyway)

What are the boxes on the shock towers? Adaptive dampening?
|
# ? Apr 24, 2015 21:53 |
|
Not so much adaptive, but adjustable from in the car. Tein and Cusco both have a system for it. Personally I've always thought that was kind of dumb, because for a given corner weight and spring there is one pretty narrow window of optimum damper setup. Plus all most of those do is adjust high speed rebound, which basically just makes the car feel really stiff when you have too much without actually improving the handling.

Ferrari Daytonas are not very pretty. It's such a dumbed-down shape. No complex curves, just a wedge.

The only thing I really never liked on it was how they did the front blinkers, but there's nothing wrong about the overall shape. They just didn't go bonkers artistic on it.

He's like 21 now and is almost done building a 37 model t hot rod He may well have bought it. I didn't have much time to talk to him. What I meant to say was that I can't imagine he had built it himself. The paint and general flavor of that car reeks of late 80's to early 90's and the driver couldn't have been older than 30. I imagined that inheriting it was probably the most likely way a guy that young would come by a car like that. Doesn't much matter anyhow.
