The days of successfully completing a PbP on SA are likely over, maybe it just has to do with the people or maybe it's just a sign of the times, gently caress if I know.

Regardless, I'd like to switch gears over to a live format, either through Hangouts or even IRC. Would anyone be interested in that sorta thing? It'd run maybe weekly or biweekly, sessions would be at least 2 hours or so, maybe longer if people are up for it, and ideally with people that won't take a full 10 minutes to type out one sentence because they're busy multitasking and are on the phone with their GIRLFRIEND, walking their dog, cooking dinner, watching a movie, AND playing a tournament game of League of Legends during the session while insisting that they're actually paying attention (you know who you are).

Probably would start with this current campaign, because I'd like to see how people like it. Anyone interested?

I highly recommend this course of action. I've met cool people by doing MapTool/Roll20 games. I recommend scheduling shorter sessions but having them on the same weeknight (2 to 2.5 hours) so that people can plan around it.

I'm finally in a job where I have a reasonably set schedule, so I could finally commit to a live-game via Hangouts or whatnot. My only issue is that I usually go to bed by 10pm at the latest, since I get up at 4:45am. If it was an earlier-in-the-evening game, or took place on an evening before one of my days off, I would totally be on board.

Sad to hear it, Fuzz. It doesn't help that some players had Acts of God happen to them so that's sad.

Anyway, I do suggest hangouts/roll20. If you want, I can help you get some of the stuff organized and show you how to get it going when you have some free time. I probably will want to play too if the schedule doesn't overlap with my own, but we'll see.

The scheduling is the tricky part, since my call schedule shifts on a weekly basis so I don't reliably always have a certain night off every week. For the short term (next 3 months or so) I can probably do every other Wednesday pretty reliably, though. I've never used Hangouts or Roll20, but I'd have no issue with IRC or even Skype plus Orokos to do the rolls. If people focused and keep up, even with 2 hour sessions we could get through this first campaign in maybe 5-6 sessions, these mini campaigns aren't really designed around being lengthy and having lots of progression, you start with a good chunk of exp and it's more about how you use what you have.

They play out more like movies, and are paced in the same way.

I'd love to do a roll20 (since with my in-person group, I've accepted that I'll never not have to GM). If you do something on Sunday late afternoon/evening, I'm totally down.

Speaking of having to GM, my group (who have only played D&D) is getting the hang of the system. I had an adventure set in basically a space truck stop, and they were in the motel-sequel section of it. I had placed a wall console that controlled, among other things, the cleaning/housekeeping droids, basically for flavor and a way to get past the locked doors in the rooms, should they fail a check.
Not only did the Drall scientist pick up on this right away (getting the doors to open for the droids), but when the party got attacked by security droids, he immediately asked, "can I have the cleaners identify a security droid as 'dirty' and swarm it." "Hell yes, you can."
I just had him make a computers or mechanics check to give the security droid a setback die to its attacks, he spent advantage on causing strain. It created a great scene where this security droid was getting knocked around by a swarm of those cleaning bots from WALL-E while being pelted with blasters and arrows (our hired gun is an archer).

I love this game. It's so much more fun than D&D or PF.

Is it just me or are proton grenades from Dangerous Covenants really overpowered? You can four-shot an AT-AT for 1200 credits and they aren't even rare or restricted. If you use more or roll well on mechanics you can do it more efficiently at a larger range, until you can win the Battle of Hoth for the rebels for less than what a landspeeder costs.

The main issue with all the explosives is what happens when you DO NOT roll well.

That and you have to basically walk up to something and plant the explosive. I guess you could throw it but you still need mechanics skill to arm the grenades and bundle them into one big bomb, and you'd still have to get in murder death kill range of your AT-ST.

12 damage vs 30 soak? Are they considered planetary scale?

You can add grenades past the first to increase the blast radius, at 8 grenades it does 150 to everything in extreme personal scale range.

alg posted:

5 Proton grenades do 150 damage vs the 50 soak of the AT-AT, letting 100 personal or 10 planetary damage through, taking 4 to do the 40hp to kill the walker.

I guess I am looking at the wrong profile on the page, or I'm not aware of how damage works vs soak for grenades. That math seems wonky to me.

edit: ah I was looking at Plasma Grenades.

I don't see them as OP since you have to get into range to drop one on an AT-AT, and you need a shitload of them. Look at Luke using a landmine to kill one in ESB.

I dunno, 4 detonations of linked explosive charges to disable an armored vehicle seems entirely reasonable. Especially since the hard part is getting close enough to place them without being destroyed by the thing's guns/stormtrooper escorts.

So reviewing the rules, I reconsidered my opinion, I thought it was impossible to exceed a formidable check by any means, but the rules allow it, so for a extreme range daisy cutter you'd need to beat 8 purple dice. I don't think a failure automatically causes the detonation, since thats special to a despair on baradium. So I don't have to worry about my players nuking every threat I throw at them until they hit higher levels.

So those that were interested in a live game, would you want to run the same Hapan Connection campaign, or one of my other ones?

I have several, and they all have the same overall style of not TOO much progression but you start with a lump of exp and it's more about the storyline and where you guys run with it... they're formatted not unlike a film, so they're not crazy long drawn out affairs, they're relatively tight in the overall plot arc, it's just you have a lot of leeway in how you get from point A to point B.

Premises range from the Hapan one to a campaign about some archaeologists uncovering some old ruins, to a story about a small group of Jedi during the Old Republic, to a bounty hunter game, to a straight up western in space.

I'm pretty flexible, but I thought I'd throw it out there... I'll eventually try to run them all, but I don't know if people were bored by the Hapan premise, even though that PbP barely even scratched the surface of that campaign, and got as far as like... half of one session.

So, anyone having fun with their players getting themselves nearly killed when it is vehicle adventure time?

I decided to plop them into the Battle of Hoth for the Imperial side as they were good friends with Veers commanding their own AT-AT. Well, the pilot went full throttle and increased the speed of the AT-AT through one of his talents to outrun all the others. He was ahead of the pack, meaning, they all were getting shot at. Then the rebels begin to tie up their legs and only survived because Veers was in range to shoot down that snowspeeder. Also, they kept getting crit and ended up having results on their tables be ones that are about shields down and such. It was very hilarious. So they finally reach the generator and destroyed it with +60 toward the Walker's crit and having less than half of the armor left. They also saved Veers too.

Then there was a session where they were getting past an enemy blockade and ended up crash landing their ship in the forest. All the players were having fun with that especially when that ship also had like, irc, a +50 on the crit table and could have exploded too.

They really, really, really like to drive and fly dangerously. Now I want to see how they'll trash a Star Destroyer under their command next.

Since they announced Desperate Allies and Strongholds of Resistance so close to one another, I think there's a lack of things to announce, honestly. Unfortunately, Desperate Allies is still being printed, and Strongholds of Resistance is still undergoing development at the moment.

I'll be taking 4-5 people, don't feel the need to mimic the characters that were accepted last time, I can roll with whatever. Try to use them as a template for the style, though, particularly Mez, the Doctor, and Sebrano, as all three of those characters were amazing.

Just to make you feel bad our group was tasked with extracting the Imperial, err Governor, of Corellia.

Our GM had planned out a running fire fight between us and an Inquisitor with a squad of the 501st (we are now a year after Endor) during a ground extraction as the Inquisitor had been sent to assassinate him due to not being reliable enough.

But instead we did an air to air passenger exchange with his air speeder and our freighter as we inserted our PC pilot as a late change to his regular pilot. Was a bit of an anticlimactic game but when a plan comes together :clint:
