Being able to read is not a high bar. Muir can read for fucks sake ( I said read, not write or draw). Are you guys seriously gonna tell me Bush was dumber than Muir?

So we'd be able to just tell people what we want and claim thats what the insane nonsense he keeps saying actually means.

Mister Beeg posted:Ohhhhkay, I'm just gonna post another week of Mallard If Tinsley tried, he might actually be able to justify actually having a job, instead of being a waste of ink and paper that somehow earns a salary. I mean look at this. The first one is an actual joke. And the "Jimi Lives/Kurt Lives" shirts are a nice touch. And I love "Save a tree... kill a person". Tinsley used to put actual notes and details into his art, used to have jokes, used to do things that weren't "drunk duck sits in a sofa or stands in the empty void, complaining. Also, footnotes that lead to the Fox News frontpage for no explicable reason". Keep up the posts, Beeg. Yes, Mallard is poo poo and Tinsley is worse, but it's interesting seeing what happened and how things have changed. One of the things I enjoyed in the earlier threads were megaposts of an artist's history, we covered quite a few but I don't think we ever bothered with Tinsley.

I never thought Dubya was stupid per se, just that he was severely out of his depth, especially when compared to his father or Jeb (which was a comparison that was made often iirc). It seemed like his various advisors/cabinet members used this to run roughshod over policy in whatever way they saw fit. When one went against the grain - Powell - he got shooed off stage. If anything Dubya's presidency resembled Tsar Nicholas II's reign.

The Bruce Jenner story is going to be interesting. He (in the interview Bruce said he still prefers male pronouns fyi) said at one point he was a Republican, and Sawyer asked what he thought and he believes he can talk to the Republican party to get them to change their ways. I think overall this announcement is going to be good for the trans movement. But watching people trip over it will be equally awful.

He lives in NoVa, but Harrisonburg is basically the town that surrounds JMU, so I can see it being a place where nothing exciting happens despite being in what is arguably one of the more "interesting" regions in Virginia. It seems like he graduated from there and never really left.

Genpei Turtle posted:"Old enough to remember 1994?" I was in college in 1994... Try a few years earlier. It was Reagan's 1980 campaign that brought "LIBeral" in contemptuous tones to the mainstream. Not saying it wasn't used before, but that was where it gained the meaning of "horrible, ignorant person who hates America and wants it destroyed". Now, of course, they've worn it out over the decades, and have tried switching to "progressive", "socialist" or "Communist". I've had a student say "Obama's a communist" (thanks to his reactionary grampa) without knowing what communism is or what Obama has done to make him one.

I really hate the stupid poo poo that turns into talking points. This weird idea of "Hillary OBVIOUSLY ate that burrito in a cynical attempt to pander!" is the dumbest thing ever. I saw some article by some Conservative who went "We all know Hillary never eats Chipotle, who is she trying to fool!?". Who on earth cares? On the other side, I honestly think that Rubio drink of water thing was dumb as hell too. It's just so embarrassing that we actually have articles and discussion over when a person drank some water, ate a burrito or what they put on their cheesesteak.

Remember when Hillary stopped in the middle of a televised SOTU response to reach over and awkwardly cram a Chipotle burrito into her mouth? Weird that people made fun of her for that, everybody occasionally gets a mad burrito craving sometimes. Get a life, I say
