520 miles is pretty good range, goddamn. I hadn't realized the range on it, I knew it had affected much of Nepal and into Pakistan and India but daaamn.

I think it might take a few days for the scale of this disaster to be realised once they count up how many are missing.

Whatever happened on everest is just a footnote compared to the thousands of people killed in the towns and cities. Homes lost. Livelihoods lost. Families decimated. A few dozen/hundred dead tourists on a rock doesn't compare to that.

Aside from being bad examples, none of these things, unless done insanely out of proportion, costs around 60.000 dollars. Thats a big pricetag for a ticket to stand in line waiting for death behind a Chinese businessman.

Considering they're reporting 18 dead just at Base Camp, it's probably going to be pretty bad.

There are reports that the Icefall route has been severely damaged/destroyed, so people are indeed trapped in the higher camps: http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2015/04/25/massive-avalanche-slams-into-everest-base-camp-following-nepal-earthquake/

When things get more organized, they might be able to use helicopters to help get people out, but I'm sure more efforts are being focused in Kathmandu and the other towns that have literally hundreds of dead and trapped people.

He had a persecution complex about the bears being threatened (they weren't) so he was sorta just a crazy guy.
