Day after RSD i got to have give cash to a band for record day at the Big Business show Big Business- Battlefields Forever. I talked the merch guy into giving me a deal for a poster but then felt bad because the Canadian dollar sucks and threw 5bux into the tip jar Also the new Goat record is really good, and I didn't get the single sided 7" some copies came with and it made me sad edit: I ended up returning Dah Shinin' I got on RSD, it was a not great sounding bootleg with the end lock grooves pressed into the centre label and very little bass. I have a beat up copy of Rude Awakening I played to compare the two using my 1200s/mixer and the difference was ridiculous. I traded it for Lee Gambles new album Koch and the record store guy was really nice about it and I'm listening to it now and it sounds really good. I buy records at the majority of shows I go to, unless I've got them already. I'm a sucker for limited print local vinyl.

Are a lot of older records poorly mastered or am I just playing a bunch of worn copies? I buy pretty much all used dad rock and some of it sounds great, anything by Steely Dan, The Nightly by Donald Fagan, the CCR albums I've got, along with a few others. The 2 new releases I've got sound fine... but a lot of old albums sound like they're almost underwater. It drives me nuts! I'm playing on an old micromatic turntable in a console that I rebuilt the amp to. Even though I don't think it's the system, it always makes me wonder.

stay depressed posted:congrats on being the first person in probably 50 pages to buy a record at a show Up until I went out and bought a bunch of used records on RSD, this was exclusively how I was getting records for the last few months. The biggest highlight was when I bought a couple records at a Juan MacLean show and realized that James loving Murphy was running the merch table; as a massive LCD Soundsystem fan who never got to see them live, I swooned

I would if I had the spare cash to go to shows? RSD and the new m.goats are the only records I've bought this year.

So my copy of the new Screaming Females finally showed up. I got an email like a month ago saying there was gently caress-up at the press and there was going to be a delay. Honestly forgot I had even ordered it until I saw the package this morning. Inside the package, however, was something strange. Alongside the copy of Rose Mountain I found two empty sleeves for a record called Yell Boss by Black Wine and a sealed copy of Teenage Symphonies by Byrds of Paradise. Neither of which I ordered of course. No packing slip to be found so who the gently caress knows.

Yeah, that Goat album is pretty dang good. It was a sorta blind buy, heard a few tracks but not much else. Glad I got it.

Indie labels often use sleeves of junk records as an alternative to cardboard inners as it is cheaper. The same labels often chuck in bonus goodies as well, like 7"s, buttons, posters etc., or in your case a record.

I bought a record off Discogs once and the sender used a copy of Billy Joel's "Glass Houses", record and sleeve, as protection, along with a sealed copy of some album I'd never heard of and don't remember the name of. I threw them both in the trash.

Which label always chucks candy chew bars in? I want to say Joyful Noise. Anyway free sweets are always nice. Temporary Residence once used a label t-shirt to package something I ordered which was pretty great. I still wear it maybe 10 years later so good quality too.

Subpop and whoever I bought my converge Live at BBC record have sent me candy before. Didn't realize this was such a widespread thing.

Do places like undergroundhiphop still throw tons of posters, stickers and promos with their orders? I remember 10 years ago I'd order one thing and it'd come with Quasimoto 12 inches or multiple MF Doom posters.

Especially "Sometimes a Fantasy." A Billy Joel Punk Rock song about phone sex.

Graveface throw in all kinds of weird stuff... puzzle pieces, pages from random books, trading cards. I've gotten a start on a rather nice Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure trading card set thanks to them.

I like punk and Billy Joel and Glass Houses is definitely not him trying to do punk. It's got a few "holy poo poo punk rock exists maybe I'm getting old" songs on it, but he doesn't ever actively try to play punkishly.

My (probably) final purchase at the Bananas warehouse before moving out of Florida in little over a week: First two volumes of Shut Up 'N Play Yer Guitar (no copies of the final installment). It's time to get more Zappa in my life.

I don't think Glass Houses sounds like Billy Joel trying to play punk, but it DID lead to the most punk moment of his career: http://youtu.be/PqY6mXULzpw
