Evidently the mayor of Baltimore said on Sunday: "I've made it very clear that I work with the police and instructed them to do everything that they could to make sure that the protesters were able to exercise their right to free speech," Rawlings-Blake said in a press conference. "It's a very delicate balancing act, because, while we tried to make sure that they were protected from the cars and the other things that were going on, we also gave those who wished to destroy space to do that as well. And we worked very hard to keep that balance and to put ourselves in the best position to deescalate, and that's what you saw." Now her office is clarifying that in the process of letting the peaceful protestors do so, that means that in the process they basically had no choice but to let violence tun rampant, not that they intentionally let violence erupt. How comforting. It's good to know that if you live somewhere that people get upset at the police and start protesting, that's a free license for anyone to come in and burn your store down because it's bad if we interfere with protests, mmmkay?

Copgoons or others- what legal rights do firemen have to intervene with the stuff that's been going on today? The reason I ask is they had people blatantly cutting the fire hoses while they were putting out fires. Would they (assuming they didn't get jumped first) be allowed to zip tie wrists and tell people to sit the gently caress down?somewhatpathetic posted:One of the WBAL reporters just had the worlds most awkward interview with some random kid near the East Baltimore fire. "Tell me your hopes and dreams." was one of the questions that popped out while the world burned. I swear I remember somebody interviewed just after the Miracle on the Hudson where a local New York reporter asked where they were from. After that was answered, the woman asked "What are you doing HERE?" after he pretty clearly went for an unplanned swim in the river and had just gotten out of the hospital when all he wanted to do was fly home. e- Speaking of the media (paraphrased just now) Panelist on CNN: "We need, however, to keep aware that Baltimore is not burning because people set it on fire. Baltimore tonight is burning because a black life was lost on the streets of Baltimore." Don Lemon: "No, let's just call this for what it is. Baltimore is burning because people set it on fire." Don Lemon picking up where he left off in Ferguson. e2- Lemon isn't loving around either. He'll be really entertaining if he doesn't have any sleep tomorrow morning. Switched to the Fox coverage over the last couple of hours, starting with Shep, Megyn and finally, Hannity. Progressing insanity. Megyn kept raising the same question I casually asked earlier, namely why the curfew is only scheduled to start tomorrow, not tonight, except she kept riding that loving idea relentlessly, going on to say that the National Guard should have been there 4 hours ago. Hannity then went on to drone about Obama being a weak leader because he's not on TV "ending the violence" and not calling in the National Guard himself, madness! I love this country.

I was listening to the BPD scanner for awhile and there were a bunch of requests for escorts/assistance from ambulances and fire trucks trying to deal with situations with unruly crowds.
