This means no random map generator, no Conflux, missing a ton of artefacts, no bug fixes added with said expansions and only.. How many, thirty maps in total across all size categories? The new graphics aren't much better than the old ones, in fact, they stand out like sore thumbs when stuff like the background hasn't changed at all, and they still haven't fixed stuff like the wonky Fortress wall during sieges! Also, none of the great mods like Wake of Gods or Horn of The Abyss are compatible with this version, and I doubt the Steam community can pick up the slack from these two behemoths. Get the GOG version; it's cheaper and has everything you could possibly want out of Heroes 3. E: Not to mention the excellent HD mod is a thing already! This is also compatible with most major mods. They broke up some more bundles on GOG today. The only ones I noticed were King's Quest 1-3 and 4-6, but I am sure that there were others as well. All of the debundled games went up on Galaxy as well. Nearly 97% of my library (yes, I did the calculation) is on Galaxy now, so I hope this means that they will soon have everything up and then move to the Beta phase.

The idea being that it does not have all of its features integrated yet, and the entire library is nearly but not quite uploaded.

I got invited to the beta with the very first wave but never had the time to check it out, and this is making me want to go download it, but I've apparently deleted the beta email and there's no way to get them to resend it, so RIP me.

I don't think this really matters, but it's still in alpha. I think it's still in alpha because a lot of features are missing, and earlier on, there weren't very many games integrated with it. Now the library is more complete. There are still quite a few features missing. I would anticipate once the library is 100%, they will move to beta for building out a few more features. You can sign up right here: http://www.gog.com/galaxy/alpha I got my key within the week. Once you get a key via email, add it to the GOG site. The Galaxy client is a "game" in your library. Download and install it just like a game.

I mentioned it above, and it was called such when they did the Aliens vs. Predator thing and first brought it out. Alpha basically means that they have not yet added all of the intended features, while Beta means that all of the planned features are implemented but that the product still needs bug-fixes and refinement, roughly speaking. They only have English-language support for the client, for example, and there are no doubt many other things to add before an official Beta. That said, my GOG library is extensive (by which I mean ludicrously large), and 97% of it is on the client now. I think that 100% library presence will be a major step and will mean that the official translation to Beta is imminent.

Out of the pile of awesome games on discount this week, I'd suggest people to give Desktop Dungeons a try. It's a woefully under hyped puzzley roguelike which can be enjoyed by both the hardcore math crunching crowd and those who seek a more relaxed experience(just don't expect to turn off your brain and win every quest). There's the free version floating around to try, but the amount of content crammed into the new release is huge. Also it's one of those games which seems tailor made for GOG drm free politic: it's small and has his own cloud, so you could just download it anywhere you want and be ready to get your dungeon fix.

There isn't a lot beyond install/play at the moment.

Very true, but they have the vast majority of their library up on that, and I would consider having the entire site on the client to be a major milestone. You are probably right, though... having the whole GOG library on the client probably does indicate an impending beta - there is so much more to be done.

Noticed this with GOG Galaxy: I installed Battle Worlds Kronos from the installer, and not in the Galaxy directory. Galaxy picked up on it anyhow and it shows up, ready for updating, launching, what-have-you. So maybe current GOG installers register with Galaxy if it exists. Kind of nice, but I have a feeling there are some GOG users who would cry foul for some reason.

I am glad that these are running until 7 May, because that sabre bundle is brilliant but I am skint. Fortunately, payday is Friday. I don't think that the blaster bundle is quite the "OMG what a deal!" that the other is, though. Still hoping that they will get the other Indiana Jones adventure game up. It might be a some kind of film tie-in legal BS, but I still want to see it.

Are the collector versions of Tie Fighter and/or X-Wing going to have their own shelf space? I went and looked and did not see anything like that, but I assumed that they would get their own digital box because the 93 and 98 versions of each game did.

Dark Forces and Rebel Assault II were the Star Wars games of my youth. Well, and Episode I: Racer for the GBC but that game is basically F-Zero Chapter 7 Tournament Mode with a rumble feature. Nice to have them back up somewhere.

Interestingly enough, the 3 versions of each of the 2 games are one of the few things in my library not on the Galaxy client right now. I would assume that older (again for GOG) games would be the last added, not the "OMG It is back!" games that everyone was justifiably excited about.

The X-Wing miniatures game broke me and now I'm Edge of Empire-ing, Vassal-ing, and suddenly I have a library full of Star Wars games. I understand that the Collectors Edition is the way to go for X-wing and TIE - is there any recommended order for the rest of the games that I should know about? I mean, I think I know enough to play KOTOR before KOTOR 2, but do I really? The only Star Wars vidja games I've played are one of the Rebel Assaults, and the awesome old arcade X-Wing game. Anything in there I'd be better off ignoring/playing first/sequentially?

moot the hopple posted:Is that the one where you later play as Captain Panaka and have to escort Queen Amadala as she tries to heedlessly take on ALL THE DROIDEKAS on Naboo by herself? It's not a perfect game but even the flaws aren't a dealbreaker and are pretty funny. In Otoh Gunga Qui-Gon tells you not to hurt the Gungans, the idea was probably to make you go non-lethal on your way through, except you're not punished for killing them, and it never gets mentioned if you do. The only consequence that might happen is a guard might toss a thermal detonator (The blast radius on these is pretty impressive) if you're murdering civilians, but they're reasonably easy to avoid. Killing Boss Nass or any members of his council will also fail the mission, but otherwise you're free to go on a murder spree. You can get away with killing a good deal of the Mos Espa population too ("YOOOOOUUUU'REEE A NO GOOD KILLER!"), though kill the wrong people an Anakin refuses to cooperate with a murderer. You can kill a bunch of civilians on Coruscant too with no repercussions. Outside of breaking the game the best part is being free to explore Star Wars locations and talk to people. Outside of the KOTOR series you really don't get to do much of that because they're straight action. This game brings over adventure game elements in addition to the action which I thought was the greatest thing ever when I got it. Christmas 99 was one of the better ones present wise; I got this game, Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine, ended up getting a Voodoo3 afterwords because the Indy game needed it, and I think I got my first Gerber tool that year too.
