I like Notre Dame too for all the reasons that have been mentioned. They also have some dumb ability to ruin the overall football season without fail either by taking up a spot a more deserving team has earned or by beating some team by Jesus magic and keeping them from a spot. What is not to love? Invisible God, Invisible girlfriend. Seems possible.

Hm. Art Briles was on the latest Audibile podcast, and as you might expect the question of Baylor's non-con scheduling came up near the end, and Briles let slip that "I think we're playing Mississippi State up in ’20, ’21" at around 56 minutes in. Neither Baylor or MSU have said anything about it yet, but I hope this is happening. Anything that means I have to listen to less insufferable bellyaching during the non-con is fine by me.

What can change by then? In 2008 Baylor and Mississippi State were both 4-8. By 2021-2022 Indiana vs. Iowa State could be a marquee non-conference matchup. It won't be, but it could be.

Dear lord these programs had some tough times. From 2001-2006 MSU never won more than 3 games. Baylor didn't win more than 3 between 1997-2004 and only had one year with more than 4 wins from 1996 to 2009. Even Indiana won five games three times in that span.

I love stassen. Indiana and Iowa State have never won 10 games. Even Kent State managed to do it once

2010 was the first time Baylor posted a winning record since the SWC breakup. They went:

16 years between bowl games
19 between wins
34 between Cotton Bowls.
And they are the only ex-Southwest Conference team to not win a Cotton Bowl (they're 0-3).

We're without a doubt in the golden age of Baylor football. It's kind of amazing to watch.

This isn't true. Texas Tech is 0-4 in Cotton Bowls with losses to St. Mary's in 1939, USC in 1995*, Alabama in 2006**, and Ole Miss in 2009.

* Texas Tech was 6-5 and part of a 5-way tie for 2nd in the SWC behind Texas A&M who were under a bowl ban. The tiebreaker came in the form of "least recent team in the cotton bowl."

** Alabama's only TD was complete bullshit and was never reviewed. Also they won on the ugliest field goal in NCAA history.

Dammit, we should have won 10-3. Their only drat points were on a screen where the receiver's knee was down and on a field goal that made it over the cross bar by some sort of black magic.

That game still hurts.

Goddammit. Local news guys are tweeting that Baylor's AD had claimed to have reached out to Miss St and a few other unnamed Power 5s hoping to get someting for the early 2020s, and that he hopes to announce a new game within a week or so, but we've had teases before that never went anywhere. I'm going to be kind of pissed if we don't get a decent game announced by the end of this. I'm sick enough of hearing people bang on about our schedule without our own AD bringing it back up for them.

The first one was really bad so they brought in another one who was also really bad and now they're just going to let the kicker do it maybe. We were one of the worst punting teams in the country last year, which is a really bad thing to be when that's how like 90% of your possessions end!

This isn't even a new thing though, we've always needlessly burned a ton of roster sports and scholarships on specialists. One year they had three scholarship kickers and all three of them were beaten out by a walk-on (meaning, yes, we had 4 kickers on the roster). To try to justify this they made one of them the world's tiniest and most adorable fourth string QB (not just like an emergency QB either, he warmed up with the QBs instead of the specialists and would help signal in plays and stuff like a real big boy QB, it was cute in the way that a little kid wearing his dad's shirt and tie is cute; I just wanted to ruffle his hair). We won the Orange Bowl that year though so no one except me cared about how dumb it all was.

This reminds me of the 2002-2004 gopher football team where kicking an extra point was a loving struggle. To the point where an extra point was no long automatic but a terrifying rollercoaster ride of emotions.
