There's a concept that they unfortunately hosed up. If they'd just made the movement and combat more along the lines of a Zelda game they'd be fondly remembered.

I think I vaguely remember that? It had a quasi top-down camera and it starts in the donut ship? It was okay, I remember it getting pretty awkward in some places.

To me it belongs in a category of mid 90s games that were neither fondly remembered nor particularly good but nevertheless I'd love to see on GOG.

Like I said, it has a boatload of flaws but the exploration and ability to break the game more than make up for it.

Yoda Stories was the poo poo and I loved it. The CD also came with a bunch of mouse cursors and icons. My dad got mad at me because I changed the family computer to have faces of like Chewbacca all over the desktop and made the mouse pointer into a lightsaber.

I tried to play Rebel Alliance relatively recently. They are terrible Star Wars themed Sewer Shark clones and that's why I wish they were available for purchase.

If you must blink, do it now.
Rebel Assault II lets you play with a mouse, but then I also made it a point to skip every single "Put so much as one scratch on that coat of paint and we'll blow your ship up" flying mission.

I dunno how TIE pilots do it.

You can, it's just much much worse.

Found this Q&A from 14 years ago regarding the Episode 1 game. You can see the beginning of the Lucasarts management stupidity that would eventually sink the company. Apparently Big Ape was supposed to make a similar game for the Original Trilogy time period starting in 1997 but then Lucasarts decided they needed to absolutely run themselves into the ground with Episode 1 tie-ins and the rest is history. The Mos Espa guards were going to be Gamorreans but then Lucasfilm said no with no explanation given, so you get the weird alien guards that appeared in the game. The hosed up perspective that everyone hates was put in place because Lucasarts thought it would be easier for players than the camera from Jedi Knight which is what Big Ape originally wanted to do.

At some point in the past I had played Rebel Assault 1 and 2 enough to beat every mission with only a few scratches, on the SegaCD and Playstation using a controller. I can't remember if the Beggar's Canyon mission was in the first or the second but that was the one mission I couldn't beat regularly. I played those things far too much.

Beggar's Canyon (if we're talking about flying in the T-16) was the FIRST level in Rebel Assault, then if you passed it and the weird shooting portion, THEN you moved to asteroid field cockpit A-Wing and then navigating the horrific crystal field and still in an A-Wing :negative:

Rebel Assault 1 was loving BRUTAL to start, once you got to the 4th mission where you're in an X-Wing and blowing up a VSD you were pretty much set for the rest of the game, it is loving cake after those 3 missions of 9th circle of hell flying.

And then they made you go through that again in Rebel Assault 2 with the 3rd mission being "carefully fly this Corellian Freighter through narrow passageways that include tight rear end turns"

I don't know why I played those games as much as I did growing up, probably because it still required less thinking and planning than TIE-Fighter (that and TIE-Fighter would only load 1/5 times :()

Of the Blaster bundle, which games would you say are worth getting? I remember rogue squadron but I don't think time has been kind to its gameplay. I'll probably grab Rebellion simply because of nostalgia though. Wasted too many hours on that as a kid.

I don't have a joystick if that impacts the flight sims.

Lemon-Lime

Rogue Squadron is still good if you liked it when it came out, actually. Just about the worst thing is that there's an annoying camera bug with breaking/accelerating in the GOG version which I don't think they've fixed yet. You also want to use a gamepad with it rather than a joystick.

TIE Fighter is better than X-Wing and the one I'd grab out of the two. X-Wing Alliance is decent and has some nice community support. Galactic Battlegrounds is a reskinned Age of Empires 2 if that floats your boat.

If you're only grabbing one, TIE Fighter or XWA are probably your best bet.

Of course, the discount rate gets axed if you uncheck a game at the promo screen, and buying one you might as well ignore the sale.

That's what annoys me, because I own a few of the games in the Saber Bundle (Outcast, Academy, and KOTOR II), and I feel a little silly buying a game I already own just because I can get other games at a reduced price.

Not that it's ever stopped me before...

Really, the only game I want is X-Wing Alliance. I'm thinking about buying Dark Forces 2, but I've heard it doesn't run too well (though that might've been in reference to the Steam version.)

The other two I considered were Battlefront 2 and Empire at War. Are either of those two worth picking up? I know that there's a new Battlefront game being made. I honestly don't know much about the series aside from what I read recently in this article.

As for Empire at War, I'm not that good at RTS games, but I've been told that it's pretty easy compared to most other RTS games.

X-Wing Alliance fuckin rules, don't let the people that say TIE Fighter is the best influence you to not buy XWA. It's wicked fun imo. Empire at War is pretty cool too for all the neat space battles

You will definitely need a joystick or controller for XWA tho. I would personally use a joystick, I've tried both and found that a lot easier.

If they come out with 64-person XWA multi I will go on disability to play that poo poo for months. :getin:

GOG bundles don't work that way. You can buy the rest of the games at the same discount, minus the price of what you already own.

I am cross-posting this from the X-Wing/Tie Fighter thread:

It looks like all of GOG's library is on the client now, but a few games are still showing "Not supported". I am sure that that is just temporary, but all of the versions of X-Wing and Tie Fighter on the client do not have their accompanying box art and they do not work. They are not marked "Not Supported" and they do install, but they will not run following that. I am not going to report this is a bug as I am sure that it is a work-in-progress and will be swiftly functional, I am just letting people know.
