There are a series of shortcuts for it, but yes. Right clicking should let you change those things.

Chill la Chill posted:Tell me how vassal works please. I click on buttons and place the templates and stuff on the field? It's v tedious to move the ships from the start and end of templates. I wrote a little reference thingy for email vassal games that I use with friends. Vassal is really intimidating at first but once you get used to it it's really really convenient and fast. At this point I don't even use tokens any more, I just click on a ship and cycle thru action tokens with Ctrl+A. Shift+A if you need to add another token. I don't mess with shield tokens either any more, I just decrease the shield/hull stats on the ship base itself (but of course draw cards when actually dealing damage). ----------------------------- X-Wing Vassal Email Instructions --------------------------- Setup Download vassal: http://www.vassalengine.org/ Download the X-wing Module: http://www.vassalengine.org/wiki/Module:Star_Wars:_X-Wing_Miniatures_Game (Technically all you need is the latest Star_Wars_X-Wing_Miniatures_Game-5.*.*.vmod file) Making your move -Start Vassal -Load the X-wing Module -If you have the Wizard enabled, select Load saved game and hit next -Click select and browse to the attached .vlog and hit finish -After the UI opens, click the Map button -Click the Step Forward button (looks like "-->|" ) until it says "End of logfile. If you find yourself constantly running out of memory go to Preferences and set your initial/max heap size to the amount of RAM on your machine. Here's a file with the 2013 championship lists I set up for a game so you can dive in easy without having to set up all the ships, which is the most time consuming and annoying part. But yeah once you get going it's loving amazing-- perfect collision resolution, sweet rear end firing arcs, fast play. If anybody wants to get an email game going (or schedule some live games on nights/weekends) just PM me. Chill la Chill posted:Thank you. I'm guessing this is the same procedure for changing the ship bases? I chose different pilots but they all say 0000.But then I choose Han and that one's correct. I'll play around with it a little more. Setting up the stats on the ships bases is the worst. Gotta increment each one by hand. Luckily you can copy paste bases for swarms and similar stat ships. Oh and if you were to start an email game with a friend using that vsav file, just load the vsav, then do File > Begin Logfile, name it something like Game1Turn1Planning1.vlog, place your first asteroid or whatever, do your thing, and then do File > End logfile. Email the vlog to your opponent with the email template and you should be able to get email spacechess going in no time. I could explain Vassal more later if it's too confusing. A vsav is like a snapshot of a boardstate, whereas a vlog actually stores a bunch of actions taken as steps. But yeah the thing to X-wing Vassal is to not waste time with all the doodads. You can simulate your tabletop experience as much as you want but ultimately you don't need to use all the tokens and chits and cards and poo poo. And you shouldn't ever break out a maneuver template unless you're resolving collision (the collision guides are pretty loving handy though). edit: Also, I play exclusively on the trackpad on my macbook and have no problems. Right click in Vassal is ⌘+click though, which is weird. mellowjournalism fucked around with this message at 10:22 on Apr 28, 2015 |

Yeah, understanding that a huge chunk of stuff- like movement templates- isn't necessary to play is big. Thinking about it, my real difficulty with the trackpad probably had more to do with my display settings and not having a good view of everything. I think it may be time to install Vassal on my new machine.

Two more quick questions: Target-Lock Secondary Weapons: If a ship has a target lock on an enemy, does it need to still have the enemy ship in it's fire arc to use something like a proton torpedo? Collisions: The way I read this is Ship A ends it's movement overlapping Ship B. Backtrack Ship A along the range ruler until they are in base-to-base contact. Ship A cannot perform an action or attack. Ship B cannot either until it leaves base-to-base contact with Ship A. Neither ship can be targeted by attacks by anyone else while they are in base-to-base. Correct?

It still can attack, but not any ship it's in base contact with. The rest is completely untrue; ship B can go wherever it wants and both ships can be targeted by other attacks, just not each others'. Start turn with the 2K selected always, then perform any move you want. Profit. Springfield Fatts posted:Two more quick questions: 1) Yes, secondary weapons only fire in primary arc unless otherwise stated (Nera Dantells for example allows you to fire into any arc). 2) If a ship moves and runs into another ship you: -backtrack until you fit, which can result in you not moving at all. If you completely clear the other ship, you are fine and proceed normally. -you skip your normal perform action step, but can perform actions if you are granted them somehow (Squad Leader, an upgrade/ability that triggers later in the turn, etc) -you cannot shoot at the ship you are touching, but you can shoot someone else, or even that same ship if it moves later before attacks come up -anyone else can shoot at either ship, no restrictions, as long as they're in range/arc as normal, no extra defense or attack dice or anything like that

I like the way Your Hobby Place sent out emails detailing the regional on saturday because I'm sure there will be people who have never played in a tournament before. The best part is that they've also included tips for food (no lunch break this time since it's forced 75 min rounds!) and links to all the pertinent FAQs and roster sheet.

So I've been mucking about with lists a bit more and I've come up with this: Soontir Fel (27) Push the Limit (3) Autothrusters (2) Mauler Mithel (17) Veteran Instincts (1) Howlrunner (18) Dark Curse (16) Black Squadron Pilot (14) Draw Their Fire (1) Total: 99 points This is the list I'll be taking to my first tournament on Friday. I could kick it up to 100 points to give Howlrunner Determination to make her ability last a little bit longer, but I thought winning initiative was more important. Any advice would be appreciated.

Dark curse isn't as important here because you already have a flanker. Unless you plan on having a 3-ship mini swarm in the center flanked by the other two.

I'm gonna borrow that Fel's Five list for this Thursday. Got the day off, gonna fly me some wangs. I need to work on A). flying Imperials and B). to go along with A, flying in formation. What is general "swarm tactics" advice beyond merely the "flying together" part of things, how do you make flying your ships in close formations work for you and not get you in trouble? Also I've had some fun with Scum Firesprays, what are good ways to use the Imperial version?

I understand the reasoning behind turr with VI but I still find him kind of limiting. There are going to be situations when boosting/barrel rolling after shooting is not going to get you out of arcs and not being able to focus/evade is gonna hurt.

# ? Apr 29, 2015 13:44 |

BBBBZ is probably the issue; Yes, you COULD make BZZZZZ, but just for a moment observe the basic maths behind 'Would you rather have 3 more B's, or 4 more Z's', and suddenly the Z's don't look very appealing at all. Silly B-Wings, why are you so good?

Red dice are good, green dice are bad. The B-Wing was priced as though green dice were important.
|
# ? Apr 29, 2015 14:25 |

That comparison isn't fully correct since he does have Ten Numb in there, so the comparison is between him supported by BBZ or him being supported by ZZZZZ, which means you are comparing 4 Zs vs 2 Bs, which leans closer to going for the Zs.

Lemon Curdistan posted:Because they're undercosted by 3 points. Yup! They got a huge discount for their "bad" dial, which isn't actually bad really, and also is helped massively by barrel roll and access to advanced sensors. So, they overcorrected and priced the E-Wing and Defender way too high, and made them basically unplayable due to the cost.
