It could happen again, but I somehow doubt Bernie has the national appeal.

Former Vermont resident here, Sanders is the greatest. I mean, he doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell, and I know that there's gotta be some some backroom reason that he's running (reminder that Dean got appointed head of the DNC following the 2004 election) but poo poo, it's nice to have a candidate who's a true democrat for once. I'm considering volunteering for his campaign because why not? They'll only need me through the first primary anyway.

Oh yeah, I forgot to post this earlier: Bernie released a tape of folk songs featuring Vermont artists back in 1987: http://digital.vpr.net/post/listen-highlights-bernie-sanders-1987-folk-album (If you go in expecting him to sing you'll be disappointed. And then happy again because it's even better than that)

Bernie's the one modern politician that could use folk and protest songs for his campaign and the artists would actually approve

Tranquilizer darts become a real possibility for fleeing subjects, because you can sit around and wait to see if a small dose takes affect. Nets are possible. A glue gun to could stick the suspect in place. You can also just keep a patrol car at a distance and wait for the suspect to get tired. A more radical approach would be to take the beat cops' guns away and put lethal force only in the hands of a small subset of highly trained officers. None of that is very likely with todays police but there's no reason that drones couldn't be used to decrease police shootings and collateral damage.

I know it's a really small sample set, but I don't like the push by the base for Bernie. Other than Clinton, who was running against another moderate, almost all of the winning candidates in the past 2 decades have come from the outside in. W and Obama came from the outside of McCain and Hilary respectively, and won. Gore came from inside Bradley, Kerry came from inside Dean, McCain came from inside Romney, and Romney came from inside of the clown car. If Hilary has to run to the center of Sanders and then turn around (like an etch-a-sketch), it's going to be harder to win. Give me a joke candidate like Schweitzer or Webb.

Not sure who it will be, just yet, but whoever it is will pick up some votes. Racist southerners, Reagan Democrats and blue dogs comprise more of the democratic primary electorate than college leftists do. If Bernie wants a strong 2nd-place finish, he has to get better at minority outreach than he has been.
