EBag posted:How many players was this with? You only have a few workers and it's over in 5 rounds, I don't see how it could take that long. If it was a learning game with 5 I guess it could take that long but I think ~25 minutes per player is pretty accurate. My experience with it has also been that it's relatively fast playing. It was five players, four of whom hadn't played before.

I like Dark Souls. Its amazing. I don't think any board game will feel like Dark Souls. My advice to you, pubic mice, is to find board games that feature the best solo gameplay that you can replace/add miniatures. Then buy the best miniatures and add them to the best game and have a good time

I will probably change up the colors in the future. The layout is an unfortunate byproduct of trying to fit the whole thing in A3 proportions for printing purposes. It certainly needs cleaning up, but needs a ground-up redesign for that to happen. I'll probably replace Descent with Mice and Mystics as Imperial Assault is mostly the same game anyway.

in less fuckoff stupid news, went to a board game night last night. ended up masterminding traglooper, did a round of eminent domain (learning game for three of the four people so I didn't use the expac) and ran a speed round of galaxy trucker Masterminding traglooper is so much loving fun you guys, ended up winning because of a slick double bluff I pulled with one role that made it so that the PCs hosed up the final guess. Tragedy looper's seriously so loving good, i'm probably going to gencon just so I can pick up the expansion I'm probably not going to play emdom without the expansion again, it just adds so much to the game, and it doesn't add enough rules to completely throw off a learning game. EmDom's still good though, it's one of the few deckbuilders that's tried to do something different instead of just aping dominion badly. speed galaxy trucker's hilarious, we had a new person so we had to play with the basic event cards and poo poo still went wobbly super quickly. I ran out of crew on the second card (lol), the new guy had all his engines blown off after Open Space came out so he came in second, and then one piece of poo poo that apparently has nerves of steel managed to make a drat perfect ship and not take any damage. still an absolutely fantastic game and just intensely fun

I got to play a couple games of the Shadowrun co-op (Crossfire). Card based sort-of deckbuilder. It has good art design and production and a decent rulebook. It's optimally 4 players (fewer than 4 it seems just directs you to have some players play multiple characters) but in exchange it gave a pretty good teamwork feel to the gameplay. I think that after a couple games though I'm starting to feel a bit "played a couple games, played 'em all"

Y'know what? I'm home sick, I'll jump on the grenade. PubicMice, you want game recs that replicate Dark Souls? Well, there's not going to be a perfect analogue, unless Plaid Hat or Cryptozoic or someone snags the license. And that hasn't turned out well in the past. Even KD:M isn't a great analogue, being Monster Hunter meets Legend of the Overfiend more than anything else. But you can deliver on pieces of what makes the Souls games interesting. Do you want an atmosphere of oppressive gloom and tilted odds? Try Space Hulk. Play a small handful of soldiers against endless swarms of aliens. It's a GW game, but it's one of the two GW games that's remotely playable (the other being Blood Bowl). Also has very detailed miniatures. Plus: no dick belts. Do you want an adrenaline rush against a backdrop of fatalism? Space Alert. Sure, the presentation is much more dark comedy than sober horror, but you're still dicking around in a world where your life is cheap and no one will care if you're hollowed out by alien parasites. Plus! Still no mutilated naked women. Do you want to solve a game by dying on it until you break through? Tragedy Looper is a puzzle you beat by flinging your own corpse at it, along with the corpses of your friends, loved ones, and random passerby, all for the amusement of a deranged, bloodthirsty god. Alternately, you can be the deranged, bloodthirsty god. And while the game is coated in anime, there's not so much as a panty flash, let alone a lion literally made of dicks. Are you just really, really invested in playing the cover of a norwegian metal album? Uhhh there's Cave Evil I guess? Never played it, but I'm reliably informed that it's certainly a thing that exists. And uh, bile fascination is baked right in. I'm halfway certain that "bile" might be one of the game's resources. I cannot comment on the presence or absence of dicknipples.

I think the amusing bit about Keyflower being a colonisation game, is that when you discover the mysterious new 'green' meeples they are inherently valuable, not because they can do anything better or cheaper that the other meeples, but because all the meeples in that game are massive racists. Seriously, they won't even go to the pub if they think a different coloured meeple might be in there.
