No? Unless you're a congressman preparing to pass laws banning the sale of this stuff bringing attention to it on the internet is going to accomplish what, exactly?

You do know that the reason these things come to attention is because people bring them to attention? Like regarding content in a lot of games "people discuss it on the internet and object to it" leads to it becoming a subject of attention and sometimes it gets changed.

I'd say I'm appalled at the idea that "they shouldn't have skeevy outfits for the child character" is a position that even needs defending, but honestly this kind of thing is just too common nowadays to be surprising anymore

Seriously hope some of you people are trolling, because the alternative is loving depressing

It's worth bringing attention to that if bloggers desperate for clicks rather than writing actual news articles hadn't brought up what the Japanese version is like and NoA had changed her age in the localization then Mr. teenage girls wearing bikinis are Sex Children (whatever that means) probably wouldn't have batted an eye seeing as Lyn actually drives a car around in cutscenes and works for the army validating her new age and he himself has the option of never equipping the swimsuits on the 18 year old Mech nut. It's not like her default outfit is a swimsuit, if you put it on her and feel offended by her wearing it in cutscenes and gameplay that are entirely non-sexual unless you're into monsters hitting girls then that's honestly on your end.

Are you saying it wouldn't have gotten brought up if not for people bringing it up?

Because it would have either way, if just for "Nintendo censored Xenoblade" when it is announced. There were similar things around Bravely Default changing ages.

I'd be interested to see a study on how many pages need to be dedicated in any thread about a japanese game that bascially boil down to "japanese game is japanese"

Part of localization is changing things that are inappropriate/gross in other cultures, I'd be surprised if they didn't change something. Bravely Default had changes for the US.

10,000 POSTS ON TALKING TIME

Ok, ok, no one would have brought it up if people hadn't brought it up and no one should think it's creepy that the developers took the time to make sure the 13 year-old could wear the mostly-naked costumes. Anyone who points out "Hey that's creepy" is actually the creepy one, and why would you even put her in those costumes in the first place, and it's pointless to ever discuss the content of a video game because we should all be discussing Real News instead.

I had no idea that Bravely Default had upped their ages until after I finished it and read about it.

Well if someone didn't and then didn't feel the need to share it here then you wouldn't have known about it unless you watched the Japanese directs and if you did then you would have already been bawwing about this months and months ago.

I did watch the Japanese directs. I think I did comment that they had a couple skeevy outfits on Lyn, if not here then elsewhere, but I don't think there was anything quite as outlandishly gross as what's come up recently. Maybe there was and I didn't spot it?

Regardless, you've provided one more hilariously bad argument that we can add to the growing list of bad arguments in this thread:

-"If you don't like this element of the game, you actually DO like it, actually even even more than the people defending it"
-"If you write the number 18 next to her name she stops looking like a child."
-"You should not talk about this unless you are a congressman trying to pass a law"
-"It's your fault if you ever ever see this in the game, even though you can't see what any armor looks like until a character wears it"
-"If you didn't notice and criticize this in the past, you should not be noticing or criticizing it now"

Incredible logical backflips here.

I know it's fun to be hyped for a game, and it's natural to be a little unhappy when people say things about the game that are not nice, but for god's sake, don't let hype fry your brain this much.

I'd like to hope that the average Japanese person on the street thinks that sexualising children is gross too, and stuff like this is just the result of soulless marketing robots deciding that horrible shut-ins are a lucrative market

I either saw one picture of an article or it was just timged here but I don't think that the thirteen yr old having a bikini is super creepy and weird.

It would be great and awesome if she instead had a full body wet suit or scuba gear to wear instead of a two-piece but there's nothing that can be done about that now.

This can't be the only game where sexualization of characters of any age is a issue? Is someone gross enough/brave to make a separate thread that I can ignore the hell out of for just that topic?

I'm not saying it doesn't exist I'm just saying if you dress up your video game characters properly you don't have to worry about finding out your a pedophile for polygons. You can leave that a mystery!

The sexualization of both genders, ranging in all sorts of age groups, including children, is a very real thing that at least academically has been studied to death since at least the 70s. It exists in not only Japan, but much of the world, so it's not exclusive to just anime. You have to be willfully ignorant to believe this is exclusively a Japanese thing. Also probably a little racist since some of you are holding that against Japan as if that makes your western world sensibilities superior.

It's funny how all the adult men in this game manage to look like adult men. Pretty wild how "anime style" makes that possible for dudes, but only dudes. Wonder what's going on there.

Hey, I can tell you're invested in the game being good, which is why you're defending the pedophilia in it. I am also invested in the game being good, which is why I would prefer for pedophilia not to be in it. Different mindsets, different ways of managing one's hype.

Honestly, although Sex Children are not something you should have to put effort into avoiding, the people saying "well you can AVOID IT" are still not as bad as trying to pretend that Lyn could ever pass for an adult woman and therefore it's not gross.

If it was real pedophilia it would have been banned by the US Government. I would never defend pedophillia.

The girl is Momo Mk II. Like Geez You would probably have a loving heart attack about Elize from Xillia 1 and 2.

This is going to keep happening until the game comes out, isn't it? Cyclical arguments about Skells and 13 year olds in swimsuits. I wonder if the people complaining about this stage protests outside beaches for promoting pedophilia by letting children wear such REVEALING OUTFITS.
