Also I interpreted the long Siege as ideal for the Noldor Princes: they could take over and rule Beleriand under marital rule for centuries. The Sons of Feanor could also put off that pesky oath because I mean they were technically trying to get back the gems, even though they weren't really.

quote:Socialist Red Guardsman, real name Gu Lao, is one of the oldest Chinese heroes. He used his solar powers to carry out the Cultural Revolution. His body is highly radioactive, so he is forced to wear a special suit of containment armor reverse engineered from Durlan technology. He has since become bitter and disillusioned as China abandons Mao Zedong's vision and embraces market economics. He lives like a hermit in an isolated stretch of the Gobi Desert due to the possible threat of a nuclear meltdown.

one of my favourite things about the whole eugenics programme is that they would perform hair- and eye-colour checks and poo poo, taking hair from individuals and comparing them to standardised spectra that they'd put together like you'd do a paint colour because, you know, why not

The one thing I think I can knock Tolkein for is that there is zero passion in his characters. At their most heated they might give a rousing speech but beyond that they might as well be one of those stock Cold War movie characters whose turn-ons are: God, Apple pie, saluting the flag.

At their most heated they might give a rousing speech but beyond that they might as well be one of those stock Cold War movie characters whose turn-ons are: God, Apple pie, saluting the flag. it really is a shame that he wrote so much of the silm as summary and never really fleshed out that much but hey, any excuse to quote “And thou, Melkor, shalt see that no theme may be played that hath not its uttermost source in me, nor can any alter the music in my despite. For he that attempteth this shall prove but mine instrument in the devising of things more wonderful, which he himself hath not imagined.” “You renounce your friendship even in the hour of our need ' he said. 'Yet you were glad indeed to receive our aid when you came at last to these shores fainthearted loiterers and well-nigh emptyhanded. In huts on the beaches would you be dwelling still had not the Noldor carved out your haven and toiled upon your walls.” “For suddenly above him far and faint his song was taken up, and a voice answering called to him. Maedhros it was that sang amid his torment. But Fingon climbed to the foot of the precipice where his kinsman hung; and then he could go no farther, and he wept when he saw the cruel device of Morgoth. Maedhros therefore, being in anguish without hope, begged Fingon to shoot him with his bow; and Fingon strung an arrow, and bent his bow. And seeing no better hope he cried to Manwe, saying: 'O King to whom birds are dear, speed now this feathered shaft, and recall some pity for the Noldor in their need!'....Now, even as Fingon bent his bow, there flew down from the high airs Thorondor, King of Eagles, mightiest of all birds that have ever been, whose outstretched wings spanned thirty fathoms; and staying Fingon's hand he took him up, and bore him to the face of the rock where Maethros hung.”
