What are some movies that are about people being haunted by ghosts? Not in a horror sense, more of a "character haunted by his past/ghosts" type thing.

If you've seen Rescue Me, you'll know what I mean. Something like that.

There is one segment from Kurosawa's Dreams that involves ghosts from the past. It's meant to be a fairly creepy, since it's a disturbing dream. The Yuki-onna dream also has a kind of ghost, but not really what you're talking about.

And I just realized that kind of is echoed in Waltz With Bashir, about a man haunted by a massacre. It too is semi-autobiographical.

For a lighter take, the recent Hungarian film Afterlife features a ghost of a young man's father that only he can see, and just kind of hangs around. It's much more comedy and dealing-with-life/death (and kind of hits all the quirky indie comedy notes, but in semi-interesting ways) than a haunting.

Shoot me some really good french language films. It seems pretty darn likely at this point that I'll be going to school in montreal so I'd like to get immersed in the language a bit.

TV shows are also acceptable, if you know of any.

edit: oh wait there is a language sub-forum that I totally missed.

Well have some anyway: the Three Colours trilogy (although White is mostly Polish), Night & Fog, The Double Life of Veronique (also Polish early on but majority is French), Two Days One Night, The Pier, Rust and Bone

Although from what I've heard Quebecois is rather unintelligible to French people, dunno if the opposite's true

Minority Report is more sci-fi but has a good bit about drugs.

Enter the Void is all the drugs, although not so much the sci-fi. Still feels cyberpunk because its set in neon-Tokyo though.

Dune has a strong relationship with the spice, but its not really a drug movie per se. Still some cool poo poo for sure.

Limitless and Lucy were both about people taking sci-fi drugs to get superpowers, but they're both kinda dumb. Lucy is super dumb.

Dredd (2012) had some cool drug use in a sci-fi setting.

Robocop 2 for that matter?

You might like Beyond the Black Rainbow. It's more horror/suspense than science fiction, but it certainly looks like a classic 70s/80s sci-fi movie. Currently available on Netflix streaming in the US.

Coherence, maybe? I think Ex Machina's meant to be like that too, which is in cinemas in the US right now, but I've not seen it yet.

Y'all have served me well so far, so another request: films about either people encountering their doppelgangers, or encountering a second version of themselves (whether through time travel or other means). Ones I've seen include The Double Life of Veronique, Enemy, The Double, Moon, Another Earth, Interstellar, Primer, Triangle, Timecrimes... that kinda thing. That's just about everything I've seen which uses this trope I think, so anything not listed, no matter how famous, would be welcome :)

After getting my tits blown off by Max Max, I'm trying to make a list of the best R-rated action films of the 21st century. I suppose they technically don't have to be R-rated, but saying "R-rated action film" is the best way to convey the type of movie I'm looking for. So far I have:

Max Max: Fury Road
Dredd
The Raid
John Wick
Pain & Gain

I really considered putting Pacific Rim on here, but I don't think it quite fits. Ditto for Live Die Repeat.

Movies I haven't seen yet that might fit the mold - Crank, Crank 2, Machete

Not a movie, but since you mentioned a tv show, I'll recommend Bloodline on Netflix. It's a slow burn show, but it's very well acted and all about the past coming back to haunt you. It also does have some scenes of the past literally represented by a ghost, but not often.

Crank definitely belongs on the list. As does Shoot em up.
I would include all the Bond films post 2000, Especially Casino Royale onwards.
Equilibrium is 2002 so barely counts.
Black Hawk Down is 2001 and military but has some good action.
The Transporter (and its sequels) aint' bad.
The Expendables fits the theme really well but its generally kinda crap.
And speaking of Sal, the Rambo remake/sequel wasn't half bad.

Sin City is kinda more drama than action so it probably doesn't fit the list.

Hell no Pacific Rim doesn't belong on that list what are you crazy?
