Does that sentinel appear anywhere in Scythe 2? I played through it and I couldn't find it.

Also, Modes of Destruction with BtSX is amazing fun. All the attention to detail is fantastic, and I especially love the explosive and plasma deaths.

I noticed a small bug in MoD though: If you're running at a non-16:9 resolution and not using a fullscreen hud, the score counter gets chopped off.

MoD was basically made for BTSX E1, my experiences playing E1 informed many of the design decisions I made when creating MoD. The no reloading option was added almost entirely because of Tough Skin River. I haven't tried it much with E2 because I find E2 ridiculously hard even on HNTR.

I'm currently having a lot of fun playing MoD with Jenesis on HMP. Jenesis takes around 10 maps to really get rolling but from Ruins on it's great.

As for the status bar bug, yeah that's a known issue, I'm going to make a variant status bar for 4:3.

That's about as old as the actual resurrect command, and the effect itself is older. It comes from the A_SkullPop function, from Hexen and Heretic, and it detaches the players control from the body onto the "head" that just popped, making resurrection impossible.

Yes, if you're gibbed your helmet (with your severed head inside) flies away and the camera follows the helmet and bounces off of surfaces. It's quite startling when you get surprise splattered by a cyberdemon.

That description for MadSpace confuses me.

quote:

News has come back to Earth of an intergalactic war rapidly approaching. A Krakin spacecraft is rapidly approaching Earth. After Humans and their Kerkop allies take one last stand against their enemies, they are victorious but the Krakin ship still remains. The Kerkop flee and Mankind is left on the edge of extinction. There is only one hope left. You.

Wow, Madspace rereleased on Steam? Now that's a huge surprise. Definitely grabbing it later this week. Skipping ZAR though, I have the Windows rerelease copy somewhere, and I remember that
4th level or so is a bullshit hard defend solar panels or die deal.

Wondering what obscure FPS is Night Dive going to hunt next. Killing Time? Chasm and Carnivores? ZPC oh god please lei it be ZPC please

Given how much of a pain in the rear end it is to secure the rights to old games and also make them work on new systems, I wonder how profitable these obscure releases are for Night Dive. Maybe they're primarily motivated by branding and portfolio building to help out in more important negotiations (cough NOLF cough).

Night Dive is a surprisingly small outfit - they're, like, 2-3 people working out of a home office, plus a revolving door of Internet-based contractors. Given that System Shock 2's re-release has sold several times more than the original disc release, and that they're dipping their toe into publishing original indie games (to say nothing of all the boxed retro PC games their CEO collects and posts photos of on Twitter...), I'd say they're doing pretty alright financially.

I definitely do not doubt their overall profitability, I was more curious about specific obscure releases.

First beta of WolfenDoom: Blade of Agony is out. Been playing it a bit. It's pretty good, the devs really put some effort into it. It would have been nice if they somehow made the player slightly shorter, because right now you tower like a foot over everyone, but I like to think it's juts because BJ is a big guy.

Someone interviewed Kaiser about Powerslave EX and he let slip that Night Dive has the rights to Turok: http://techraptor.net/content/interview-man-rebuilding-powerslave

TR: After Powerslave EX, are you going to try your hand at remaking other shooters?

Kaiser: I was originally working on remaking N64 Turok (called Turok EX) but it got put off to the side. Since now Night Dive Studios has picked up the rights to re-release it, Turok EX will resume development later this year. By the way, I’ve also done work with Night Dive by re-releasing Strife, which was another reverse-engineering project that me and a friend worked on back in 2010.
Aside from that, I am not sure if there’s any other shooters I plan on remaking. I’ve been tempted to look into Blood but I am quite wary of the many toes that I could potentially be stepping on. Particularly Atari’s toes 😛

Oh yeah, that dude's a Grade A tit. So there's going to be a paid version of Black Mesa? Something I'm seeing repeated a lot right now is that the free Black Mesa mod is considered "the first half" of the game...but it seems like Black Mesa covered a lot more than half of the original game. I definitely couldn't see paying for something I've been able to get for free for several years (but now with the addition of Xen). And that's coming from somebody who actually thought Xen was kind of interesting. I wonder what else is being brought back/rebuilt. Maybe BM's Xen is going to be considerably larger?

According to this, the paid version will have multiplayer, Workshop support for mods, new graphics (including things like all-new weapon models) and will be supported by the devs a lot more than the free version will be.

If you told anyone six months ago that the final Black Mesa would be a paid product they'd call you nuts.

Regardless I love me some Half-Life and what's out of Black Mesa already is loving amazing, so with the new multiplayer and workshop support (workshop-supported custom SP/MP maps is definitely in the books) I'd definitely pay for this.

Black Mesa Source was high enough quality that I'm happy kicking them $20 or whatever just to keep them working, but I don't know what would even be the point of having MP on it - HL2DM and DMC still have players kicking around if you really want to play those. I hope they do plan on releasing Xen for the free version, though.

I don't see why they wouldn't have Xen in the free version. The paid version feels like it's more about supporting the devs and getting some neat extras from it instead of forcing people to pay in order to get Xen.

Going off the post that was linked:

quote:

The free version is basically the mod release, ported to a new engine, with some bug fixes. That's mostly it.

No mention of Xen there, and that dev lists "constant updates, new features, active development" as features of the paid version. That said, that post is from six months ago, so we basically don't know anything about their plans right now.

Also, honestly, not getting Xen would probably be something you can advertise as a feature of whichever version doesn't have it. :v:

I looked it up, the pay/retail version was announced in November 2013. The announcement was mostly kept to their own forums and some other Source engine communities, though, so it was probably easy to miss.

They actually made a big point of fixing the marines in the new version, apparently - they recoded the AI so that they're no longer aimbot machines and actually use grenades, and bought in one of the guys from another Source game, Insurgency, to give them better VO.
