I choose to believe Kojima had Liquid think that genes are just a good/bad switch because it's easier to explain to the player that way. Well, they DO have a couple uses, but only as makeshifts if you don't have better items for it. If you smoke while standing near lasers, the smoke refracts the beams and makes them temporarily visible (this is used much more in Metal Gear 1 and 2, and the MGS Game Boy game). Also, iirc, don't they also calm your nerves in sniper mode a little, but not as much as the pills?

Well, since we can talk about spoilers here, it's all Ocelot's fault, naturally. MGS2 reveals he was sent there just to provoke Liquid. It's the only logical explanation for the fact Liquid still keeps thinking he's the inferior one in spite of constant proof to the contrary. Ocelot: "What's that, Boss? You survived a HIND-D crash that totally would have killed Solid Snake? Well...you're still the inferior one! These Super Secret Documents I have say so! No, you can't look at them. You gotta go fight your vastly superior brother." Also this is some amazing luck on my part. I just got into an MGS Mood after noticing it was just after April 30th. I search LP forum for Metal Gear and immediately find this thread. I have really good luck with this sort of thing it seems. I will be eagerly following this every thread step of the way. MGS2 is my favorite but I think MGS1 is the best game overall.

What on earth accent is Naomi pulling in this game, it sounds like a poor attempt at a British accent, I hadn't played this one until Twin Snakes on Gamecube so to hear her original voice is just really weird.

She's doing that voice that you see people do in TV or movies where they are an American character, but they are doing this posh English accent that makes them sound either smarter or more refined depending on the genre of the show. I don't remember if Naomi actually is English or not. Usually it's reserved for characters who are jerks or knowledgeable mentor type people. And sometimes, uh, the bad guy. I'm pretty sure the accent is gone in Twin Snakes.

Let's Play Metal Gear Solid Episode 3 - Drunk Canadian History Here's the episode where I look like a light weight, and everyone realizes I'm actually really bad at Metal Gear Fun facts for this episode: -Raven is Inuit. loving durr. -Sioux actually does mean "Little Snake" or "Treacherous Snake". Raven is actually really smart and most of the poo poo he says is true, despite being cryptic and wierd. -I got grenades last episode, but then fell down a pit and forgot to go get them again. -If you see me running around like an rear end in a top hat after an alert, I'm trying to take my drink without pausing because that's lame. -We both have the maturity of a first grader, and as such will be giggling every time Deepthroat is mentioned. -Meryl tells us exactly where the Nikita is, but we were STILL giggling about the name "Deepthroat" Danaru fucked around with this message at 16:59 on May 6, 2015 |

Considering Deep Throat was named such deliberately after the hugely popular porno out at the time (seriously, Deep Throat is probably the most successful porn of all time, doing better money than most Hollywood films that year) I think it's okay to giggle at it, because at the end of the day it's a pun (DEEP cover) based on blowjobs. Also, Deep Throat is a weird movie. Not as out there as other mainstream at the time porn like Devil in Miss Jones or anything, but a movie about a woman born mutated so she has a clit in her throat is pretty weird still. Also it feels scummy to even think about its popularity because years later the star, Linda Lovelace, claims she was forced to do the film (sometimes at gunpoint!) by her husband who got all her money, and considers the film to be her getting raped multiple times.
