Yo ho?

I'm in a weird spot with driving games, probably because I've never driven a car IRL and likely never will. I appreciate a good amount of realism (and for some reason can't seem to enjoy a driving game with made-up cars), but a full-on sim can be way overwhelming and I don't think I'll ever want to use a manual transmission. I love Forza's racing line (I'd never know how to take corners properly without it) and am way too scrubby to feel shame at having driving assists turned on. How friendly is this game going to be to a dork like me that doesn't understand the first thing about how driving a car actually works? The career mode and frankly stunning visuals have me really interested in this, but I'm afraid it'll be too hardcore for me.

For comparison's sake, the last driving game I played was Forza Horizon on the 360 and I had a lot of fun with it.

Ought to cater nicely to you while providing challenging cars and tracks to grow with. Honestly, a good sim can teach you how to drive. Consider the assists something that you'll grow out of needing as you figure out all the nitnoid racing stuff.

I'm guessing the ghosting bug has something to do with temporal anti-aliasing. This means that each frame is blended with the last one, while having the sample points slightly shifted. This page has a really good explanation about halfway down.

The Xbox One version has been confirmed by the developer to be 4x EQAA.

That NeoGAF thread highlights just how demanding a specific niche of consumers are. There's at least three would be 'experts' arguing heavily with an actual developer over their 'findings'. Seems like nearly every reply the SMS dev makes, he gets about 3 posts making GBS threads on him for his supposed disrespectful tone.

No, it's the opposite: they flash their lights so slower cars know they're coming.

I don't think so in this case, in this race, even the commentators mentioned it

this is the race I watched with an example, here the driver ahead obviously knows he is there and it happens repeatedly throughout the race too

Pretty sure they do that to let them know there is a faster car coming up behind and they are going to be passed.

Edit - Watched the video above and it looks less like trying to be a distraction and more him saying "I'm faster why are you holding me up" or an "I'm coming for you hoe".

I dunno, when you have a dude doing that at the race leader in the last ten minutes of the race? I mean, that seems pretty odd to think "better flash my lights at first place so he knows I'm faster than him". it's gotta be pure distraction/mindtricks at that point

advion

At that level I don't think some flashing headlights are going to bother anyone especially during the day.

Either way typically headlights are used to tell someone you're faster and going to be passing.

Yeah that video was incredibly odd. Like, there was no reason for the guy flashing his lights to be doing so, because he wasn't faster then the other driver. They were both the same race car. The flashing lights is used in the World Endurance Championship because there are many different classes of cars, some are significantly more powerful and faster and so the flashing lights are used to signal to the slower cars to get out of the way. This has been an issue in the past though because the slower cars tend to also be piloted by far more inexperienced drivers, and attempting to let someone pass at over 200mph is a lot more tricky then it looks.

Kind of disappointing. Also: I thought a week ago they said May 8th midnight was the release most places; is Steam getting it a full day early? Wonder if that'll impact GMG timing or if us going the cheap route will be waiting till late Thursday/early Friday.

Good thing the Dirt Rally surprise last week has been more than satisfying my racing game wants. I hope PCars is as satisfying as it has been and is essentially the road version of it.

The pedals on my wheel broke today. I was braking at Watkins Glen when the brake pedal snapped clean off. I don't have high hopes about Thrustmaster replacing it.

That sucks, Cheesetriangles. At least the game is pretty good with a controller though? (Just tried it for the first time, quite nice).

Okay, when did Sakkito go from Suzuka to "not Suzuka"? I remember it being a pretty accurate reproduction, but now it's all different?

*After turn 2, Suzuka would go left, but Sakkito goes right. The S Curves do not feel nearly as aggressive

*Turn 11 (hairpin) is no longer there, and is a sweeping uphill left. It's a cool corner, but I liked the Turn 11 hairpin alot. :(

*The distance between Turns 13 and 14 (Spoon) feels a good distance shorter.

*Casino Triangle at 16 and 17 is just gone. There's what used to be the chicane, but you blow straight past it.

Why did they change it? Suzuka was awesome. Even though they've made a pretty nice circuit, it feels pretty off to me thanks to the hundreds (probably thousands) of laps I've done of the Suzuka circuit in Forza and PC sims.

e: Ah, they had to change it because they could not get a license in time, so made enough changes so they would not get sued.

e2: Still got access to my copy. Here's hoping?

Yeah I turned ABS/Traction Control/whatever the third one is on and am playing with a 360 pad. It controls real nicely if you count insanely easy to the point of being trivial as nicely. With all those assists I can bomb around any track at top speed with no care in the world. Tapping the brakes in a corner in a Formula car with my wheel and all assists off could send me spinning and into a wall and dead. With the 360 controller it doesn't matter what the gently caress I do. Took a lot of the fun out of the game for me personally.

I'm in the same position car wise, I don't drive irl (I have a learner's permit though! woo!) but I've been playing driving games and simulators of a sort since I was 10 years old. Even if this game is intimidating at first with the assists off and stuff, you'll get used to it. I'm a fairly competent driver in most simulators and I even own a wheel. Not a very good one, but it does the job.
