I mostly just use Quen on the Kayran because you don't have to do much damage there anyway, and there's a couple of parts where you're just standing in a corner while it throws a tantrum and you might as well cast something.

The Sharmat posted:I find it amusing that she plays Geralt as a giant horndog and hosed Cynthia. I loved W2 but after beating it twice on hard I definitely find the control scheme supremely annoying. Its not a bad design, its just so flaky and inconsistent at times that it can be absolutely infuriating. If you're going to have Souls style "can't make a mistake" combat you can't have stuff like random huge delays on throwing bombs/knives, random drop of control input (think this is a lack of input queuing), or not knowing reliably whether you're going to do a leaping attack, or if you do which of the wildly different animations its going to play. Also there's a couple of fights where when it loads you often take a big chunk of damage before you have control of your character, the worst was rescuing Triss in chapter 3 where I had to load an earlier save and cast quen before I spoke to the "boss" because it kept killing me before the camera even panned back to Geralt. edit: And thats not even touching binding the uniteruptable "stop everything and inspect my necklace" button to L3 and not disabling it during combat, cause thats at least theoretically my fault. The Sharmat posted:That's annoying as hell. But fun fact: the fight you're talking about? You can move during the last part of the cutscene. There's no indication of this anywhere, but it will save you a lot of damage. I kept holding a direction and spamming dodge during the last part, at best it seemed to give me a 50/50 shot of managing to survive but with half health.

I'm assuming that the plot flags you get from importing a save (That aren't in the game-start dialog choice setup) will be inconsequential since Console versions could never get them. I'm really curious to see what kind of plot flags you can set in the W3 intro (I assume Witcher 1 Major Choice, plus Ending. as well as Witcher 2 Chapter Choices)

Well if you keep expecting input queuing again in every fight, you will get surprised every time. The Sharmat posted:I find it amusing that she plays Geralt as a giant horndog and hosed Cynthia. Naw I suck at videogames, I don't get what's so hard about rolling away and moving in to attack though Like, I loaded up a save with the endgame Letho fight on the weekend because I thought maybe I misremembered it. Rolling in a circle constantly and then Aard -> light attack, heavy attack was all it took. The only difference in the first fight is that you have to make sure you don't roll into pillars.

Eh, Moon Blade was pretty servicable for most of Ch 1. Mahakham Rune Sigil was pretty meh though, and then you had Raven's armor. Probably no surprise why the dude died, in retrospect.

If the game difficulty is balanced well enough for starter equipment, then carryover equipment can do nothing but make the early parts too easy. I'll take the starter equipment.
