people keep saying Bernie is the Ron Paul of 2016, but even if thats true, I don't get why thats a bad thing Ron Paul has some literally insane ideas, but the ideas you see espoused as mainline Republican today were pretty much fringe even a decade ago if Bernie simply starts pushing the Democrats toward real progressive ideas as opposed to vaguely progressive and Corporatist ideas then I'd say his campaign would be pretty successful

Huckabee announced today and it just seems kinda desperate and weird, like why the gently caress would anyone bother voting for that guy when there's probably 4 identical politicians already running

Today's news from Bernie Sanders: 1. Sen. Bernie Sanders will introduce legislation this week calling for the breakup of giant banks, he said Monday on MSNBC. The six biggest Wall Street financial institutions have some $10 trillion in assets, write half the mortgages in the United States and issue two-thirds of the credit cards, “In my view, if a bank is too big to fail it is too big to exist,” he told Rachel Maddow. “I would appreciate Secretary Clinton’s views on that matter.” 2. Sanders opposes a proposed 12-nation trade agreement that he likened to earlier trade pacts which shifted millions of good-paying American jobs to low-wage nations overseas. Legislation to make it easier to ram through Congress the latest deal – the Trans-Pacific Partnership – could come before the Senate later this week. “I am not quite sure that the American people know what the secretary’s position is on the TPP,” Sanders said on MSNBC. 3. The Senate this month is expected to take up House-passed legislation to limit the federal government’s sweeps of telephone and Internet records. Sen. Sanders voted against the original post 9/11 law, the USA Patriot Act, which resulted in the National Security Agency surveillance abuses exposed by Edward J. Snowden. “We have to be strong in protecting our people from terrorism but I don’t think we have to undermine the Constitution,” Sanders said on MSNBC. 4. Sen. Sanders tonight will hold a town-hall on the congressional Republican budget. Sanders is the ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee. C-SPAN plans live coverage of the event tonight in Lanham, Maryland. 5. “He is our eccentric relative, the grumpy uncle who bends your ear every holiday picnic railing in his distinctive Brooklyn accent against the corporations and the 1 percent, oblivious to the mustard smeared on his rumpled shirt. ‘That’s our Uncle Bernie,’ we say, smiling, before reaching for the potato salad. ‘It wouldn’t be a real holiday without him.’” Matthew Dickinson wrote for The Christian Science Monitor. number 5 is my favorite
