I once had the outside door of a lift open and there was nothing but an empty shaft, which is probably the closest I've ever come to falling to my death. When the building manager got told he said "oh yeah it did that to me the other day as well"

Okay, drat. That's like twice in my entire life watching something on my computer has actually given me a genuine twinge of vertigo. The other one was crazy Russians climbing a crane on top of a skyscraper in Hong Kong using a fisheye lens.

Carbon dioxide posted:Yes, but this vid has been renamed to say the elevator 'skyrockets down' while it clearly goes up. Yeah, the fact that a failing elevator commonly goes up seems to be really hard to grasp for a lot of people. Elevators have a counterweight that equals the empty carriage plus 50% of the rated weight. So if the breaks and engine fail a nearly empty carriage will go up fast, but a full one will drop.

My coworkers cousin that works at the Sonic in town somehow managed to cut off his finger on the job. Something about sticking his hand into a machine because it was turned on but not working. How do you lose a finger at SONIC.

Plenty of places to lose a finger. I've grown sympathetic towards injuries involving lack of common sense. That poo poo don't exist on the job. Assume someone will horrifically maim themselves on anything and everything.

The flashlights are connected serially, so that each flashlight receives the voltage it expects while still being directly powered by the car battery.

The tanker was following the plane too closely and didn't swerve to avoid when the jet pulled a U-turn. I watched as the jet pulled into a dead-end tarmac, turned around, and made its way to the exit before piercing the truck. The driver had plenty of time to react, but he chose (perhaps wisely) to duck down and take it in the driver's window rather than risk a jet's fuel tank puncturing his own fuel tank.

I know it was 30 pages ago, but how the hell did Ashley Furniture rack up 1,000 reportable injuries? I mean, it's obvious that their management didn't give a poo poo (look at their response). Why would you buy anything from them? If they don't care about their employee health and safety, why would they care about quality? Sure a lot of things can be an OSHA reportable, but the vast majority of the time it's stuff that's avoidable. spacemang_spliff fucked around with this message at 04:39 on May 8, 2015 |

I worked in a furniture store for over three years and the Ashley stuff was our low end cheap garbage that we got to put in advertisements and to sell to lower income families.
