A great episode. Not only were the twists great, but they also followed logically from the characters. If there's one position Jaiyang has been pretty consistent on, it's that she wants to keep her people secret and safe, and after the things she's seen first hand - Whitehall's experiments in the second world war and again decades later, it totally makes sense for her to absolutely not trust SHIELD - especially after Hydra emerged from it. Her mind was set from the moment Skye came in with SHIELD's offer. She was not interested in negotiating terms of registration, to her registration was just the first step towards extermination. If Coulson had gone in Rodriguez's place, she would have used the crystal just the same.

Since Skye showed up, she's been torn between her duties to the Inhumans and what she wants for her daughter, and this time, she went against what her daughter wanted and chose what she thought was better for her people. Or probably, she thinks she is also doing what's best for her daughter in the long run. I think Jaiyang did tell Cal about her plan, though. To me Cal not saying what was in the vials was a warning sign that his surrender wasn't as complete as it seemed. At first it seemed like a nice gesture on his part though, to give himself up.

We also got to see Rodriguez as a good person at heart, who was legitimately trying. He actually ceded power to Coulson surprisingly readily, and it was nice to see Coulson respecting him enough to take his council's advice.

Teleporter dude can literally snag bombs/fighters out of the sky and dump them on the aircraft carrier before they hit the ground. Electricity guy can do havoc with the jet on board instrumentation. Erm, I don't think we've seen other powers beyond Daisie and the Clairvoyant, both of which are out of commission for this one. But in any case SHIELD are vastly outgunned on this one.

I don't think he can teleport wherever he wants, he needs an anchor like having been there or there being an inhuman there. Also I don't know how pretty boy would interfere with a jet that's literally tens of kilometers away

Gordon was almost captured by Hydra goons. Imagine if they were trying to kill him not take him alive for experiments.

Yea I guess Lincoln would be dangerous if you tried to have a fist fight with him. He gets shot in the face by anyone more than a few meters away.

I'm feeling fairly confident that the stuff in those vials is what Cal has to take regularly in order to NOT turn into Mr. Hyde, and next week we're gonna see him hulk out inside the carrier or something.

Also holy drat I hated Gonzales but what a way for Jiaying to turn villain! She has a beautiful point though. gently caress your index bro, she's literally a holocaust survivor.

I keep asking where the royal family is in all this, where's Attilan. Is Jiaying answerable to the royals? Or some other group of nebulous "elders" or what? Raina made a power play so fast and it's like... Seriously what would make her think Jiaying's position is so unstable?

So many questions! I'm sad we're gonna get a lame fuckin Mockingbird prequel in fall instead of something with the present. Things are getting good, at last!

I do think it's worth remembering that even if Gonzales made an incredibly touching gesture of peace at the end of the episode, at the start he was the one suggesting attacking Afterlife. It's almost inconsistent but it makes sense that even if he is an a-hole, he's not 100% a dick.

Kyle MacLachlan has just aged really well. He doesn't really look all that different from Twin Peaks and that was around when that happened.

Seriously? She shook a mountain, that was more than a few kilometers away mind you, hard enough to cause a pretty large avalanche as her first lesson. If the writers wanted her to, I'd have no issue accepting that she could shake apart a quinjet or three.

No, he's definitely aged. He even made a comment about how Jaiying must see him as an old man now this episode. And it took me too long, but here, this is from when he finds Jaiying:

Well I didn't mean Skye in particular, I just meant someone as powerful as her. She would probably never turn against SHIELD. Also she could see the mountain. She can't see the jets(or drones).

Skye could definitely cause jets to shake apart. She's caused seismic events just by getting mildly upset, and that was before she learned control. And Lincoln caused all the electrics at SHIELD to flicker just by waking up. And though he hasn't done it in a while, it's important to remember that Gordon can also create force fields and may have other energy powers in addition to teleportation. And that's just the people we know about.

Yeah, at first I was surprised and confused about why Jaiyang would suddenly murder Gonzales and start a war with SHIELD, but once you think about it, it makes sense.

She's a person that's witnessed the ideals of Nazi Germany first-hand, and was tortured by HYDRA to boot. SHIELD rolling up into their secret base and insisting on "registering" her people so they can deal with them if they "get out of line" must sound awfully familiar to her. Hell, I think another character even made a comment about SHIELD literally branding them? Whether true or not this all would seem very bad from her perspective. So she's left with the choices of appeasing SHIELD and possibly ending up in a death camp, or being proactive and protecting her people.

I will say that I was a bit disappointed that Theta Protocol was the heli-carrier. I mean, it makes sense, but I was hoping it was something else.

That would be an awesome twist. The show made it a point to have Gordon mock Cal's lack of powers without his vials, but he doesn't really seem any weaker to me. It would be awesome if the vials were actually the thing keeping him barely sane at this point, and denying Cal his juice backfires in a big way.

I also hope that Cal never leaves the show (of course he will). Sure, his character is bad and a murderer, but he's so darn likeable. Also, his motivations to be a bad guy stem from protecting his family, which comes off as more grounded when compared to the other bad guys on the show, despite how over-the-top Cal is in his actions.

Calling it now, Skye's gonna ultimately side with Shield and both her parents will be either captured, dead, or mysteriously disappeared at the end of the season. On the way to that, we'll have tons of Inhumans wrecking poo poo and Shield invading, basically blowing the remainder of the season's budget.

Bobbi might pull off a crazy escape, though that's a toughie with Ward there. I think the safer bet is Hunter tracking her down and rescuing her.

Hopefully nobody we care about dies in the finale. I'm wondering what they'll set up for next season too, they ended S1 with the "Coulson's drawing crazy stuff too" tease.

I hope her dad lives and ends up on Daredevil for an episode or two, being one of the normal Daredevil villains.

One of the characters in the show explicitly said that he takes the stuff to become strong, and it was fairly obvious when they took the vials from him which were mostly empty he has just chugged his stash so he will be able to hulk out at where ever it is they are taking him - i.e. part of the plan to gently caress over SHIELD.

In addition, if he decided they really had to be exterminated, he'd have smiled politely, thanked her for the meeting, left, and THEN had the jets bomb the place. Going into the middle of the compound alone to assassinate their leader is not something that would have been helpful for his survival.

I think the clarification here is that Gonzales isn't a dick, but he was a pragmatist and a bit of a cynic.
