Krysmphoenix posted:For a bit on the warehouse map I just sat on the crates in the middle, and just hopped back and forth after firing only once. Seemed like the best way to do it. There is nothing more terrifying than having a splattershot jr in a team full of rollers and seeing a charge jump onto anything remotely elevated because at that point your only chance is to hope they don't know what they're doing or get careless so you splatter the top of the crate and force them off.

I kept getting in weird viewing angles and then pressing Y before I actually reset, so it didn't help. I kind of hope there's an alternative control scheme where I can use the other control stick for the camera, if I can't figure this one out. There's an option to disable the motion controls, yeah. I couldn't get used to the gyro camera at all so I disabled it and did just fine with the right stick.

Decision to buy Wii U for Splatoon last year: validated. -There is an option to use the other stick for aiming. -The roller's ability is the big wail screeching thing, and that just kills anyone caught in the sound wave. The other special weapons were just temporary infinite bombs, either the small ink bombs or the big ink grenades. -The shield seems to be completely invincible. -The super jump works by tapping a teammate's icon on the map on the gamepad. You will automatically jump super high to the location they were at when you tapped them. - Me too. -Yeah it was pretty good. There was only one game that had a laggy player who killed me a few seconds after I killed him, and his paint didnt show up until a few paces behind him (he was a roller) -yeah -5, with more to be added -I found that this happened more often in the walleye warehouse than saltspray rig. The games that were total stompings always happened on WW. -Hell yeah!

surf rock posted:Alright, finally caught one of the demo periods and this game is pretty rad. Decision to buy Wii U for Splatoon last year: validated. This is correct and you have good opinions. surf rock posted:- I think I'm going to need a lot more than an hour to get used to the gyro camera. I kept getting in weird viewing angles and then pressing Y before I actually reset, so it didn't help. I kind of hope there's an alternative control scheme where I can use the other control stick for the camera, if I can't figure this one out. You can use + from the weapon select menu to change controls, including turning gyro on or off. I played primarily with it off because I couldn't get used to it, but people who are used to it do say it's great. surf rock posted:- I have no idea what the charge abilities do, except the shield. What the hell was the roller's ability supposed to do, is that a kill move? Roller special once charged is activated by clicking in the right trigger and using ZR to place. It emits that big sound wave funnel and squids that are in the funnel for a second or so get splatted. Interesting special for the roller since it doesn't lay down any paint. Actually not too sure about the other specials though. Can anyone chime in for the Splattershot or Charger? surf rock posted:- Is it possible for a roller to take down a shield? Didn't seem like it. Nothing can take the shield down while it's up, but it only lasts a few seconds. Squid away and try to get behind them to take them out as soon as it drops. surf rock posted:- I couldn't figure out how the hell the super jump worked. If you look at the map on the Gamepad, you can see the location of all your teammates. Tap on one of them to super-jump to their location. It takes a second or two so if you try it in the middle of a firefight you might get splatted, but it's great for respawns or after painting a far-away section in order to get back to the action quickly. surf rock posted:- This was probably the smoothest online experience I've ever had with Nintendo. Lagged just once for a few seconds over the half hour. No mid-game disconnections. Every game except one had full parties on both sides. A couple of networking errors while trying to join a match, but it worked on the second try every time. surf rock posted:- I wonder how many maps the final game will have? Five on release day, but Nintendo's staggering new stages as free additions after that. Does anyone remember the exact details from the direct? I believe it was something like one a week for some number of months. The same thing goes for new weapons and other content.

Thanks for the responses, folks. Good to know that there is a two-stick control scheme available, although I want to give the gyro scheme more time before moving on. There were a few points where it was super intuitive, and the controller movement definitely spiked the energy of each match. Wish I would've figured out the super jump sooner, that would've saved like 20 seconds of useless swimming through my own paint each match. Edit: Also, I started Earthbound last night and this game didn't make me regret the interruption of my Ness time, so that's pretty impressive. surf rock fucked around with this message at 21:39 on May 9, 2015 |

Keiya posted:So my brother is wondering what happens if you get exactly the same percentage... has anyone had it happen? No but got really close, the end score numbers were 1 off from each other and the percent was 0.1 difference. It probably keeps track internally in a smaller amount and makes sure the players see the 0.1 difference so they know who won. When we can actually make matches it will be easy to find out have 2 teams pre-made just sit around and do nothing. I'm guessing it goes to K:D or some other silly stat, maybe amount of time moved, paint volume used, time in squid form. Who knows but I would probably make all sorts of conditions and make sure a tie couldn't happen ending with a coin flip and making it not visible to the user if my goal was a kid friendly 2 minute long match shooter.

Played for the whole hour and well this is now a day one purchase for me, too fun. I played a lot with the roller and the normal splatshot and I did better with the splatshot overall. There probably needs to be a point where teams are chosen and you can see what your teammates are using so you can adjust accordingly. Having a team of four rollers never went well for me! Other than that, had a blast in the short hour I played and will definitely be picking this up when it comes out.

Rocket power aired in 1999 you guys, its more 2000-s than 90s. (It also wasn't very good) Splatoon is more like Wild n Crazy Kids, Double Dare, What would you do, etc. aka Marc Summers career. (Slime was first used in 'you can't do that on television' in '79)
