You can bet your rear end at least some of the Armata family will be in one of the later modules, provided that there is enough analyzed data about them including from combat trials. Just some "best tank ever RUSSIA STRONK :ussr:" propaganda & parade gives little to work with. Not that with modern era you could avoid guesstimating half of the kind of information that you'd easily find for WW2 weapon systems anyway.

In other news, Tomislav explained the changes that are coming to Unity of Command PVP in the sequel. We polled our players and found some good ideas. http://unityofcommand.net/blog/2015/05/06/the-future-of-unity-of-command-multiplayer/ What do y'all think?

Its essentially Panzer Corps in the Pacific with a few additions.

Supply is now a big thing in the game, and making sure your units are well supplied is required to keep them as an effective fighting force. (Edit: this makes encirclements very powerful as it cuts off supply. Units out of supply can only move 1 space)

Aircraft stay up for a set amount of turns, aside from floatplanes, before needing to repair and re-arm. Every turn they go without fuel damages them slightly.

Combat is a little mysterious to me at the moment. One of the training missions had me unable to damage a paratrooper unit at 33% original strength with either a full light tank unit or reg infantry.

Naval combat is a major portion of the game now, but combat confuses me since getting closer doesnt always mean youll do more damage.

Edit: You can't take back a move, even if you didn't get ambushed/spot an enemy.

All in all, if you're already a fan of this style of games, get it. I haven't been able to dig too deep since I only got it recently but it does a decent job as a (spiritual) successor.

It's Panzer Corps using the Commander: The Great War engine. That's really the best explanation if you've played both games.

Efficiency is a major factor in combat - I'm guessing your units were low efficiency (they'd have a yellow, orange, or red strength number) which would be why they'd have trouble damaging the paratrooper.

Supply works like C:TGW, which means that securing transportation routes is unfortunately underemphasized since supply has unlimited length, but the supply point concept is nice since it means an entire army can't feed off of one small supply source.

Naval combat made no sense to me until I read the manual - how it works is that each ship has an optimal range (there's a formula that I forget, but it's about 2/3 of it's max). In addition, if you moved closer or farther from the enemy, you'll do less damage (the justification is that you can't point a full broadside at them). Finally, if the enemy didn't move on their turn, you'll do more damage to them. Each of those factors (beyond optimal range, moved closer or farther, enemy moved) will independently lower your damage, so if all 3 apply, not much will happen. Torpedoes ignore all this and always have the same attack strength. The optimal move is therefore to start with your ship in optimal range, move it while maintaining the same distance from your target, then shooting at your target.

I would definitely advise reading the manual, it's quite well put together and explains a lot, whereas the tutorial is fairly sub-par.

Never played C:tGW so that explains a few things. I didn't bother with the manual since it looked so very similar to PC I thought I'd be okay without it, guess not!

Combat Mission doesn't have campaigns that hold a candle to Close Combat. You might want 101st Airborne, that game is an absolute classic.

Ive finished a few missions into the Allied campaign and i must say it really is a cool game. Lots of bonus objectives in missions, each providing tangible results (more prestige, a commander, units, etc) while being very challenging at the same time. Much like how you wont get great victories on your first try with Unity of Command, it allows for some great replayability.

It also has a more well thought out combat and unit system and I really hope they bring other theatres to the system.

Vietnam '65 is fun but after a couple campaigns I felt like I'd done everything. I don't really like the hard limit on the length of campaigns, either, without an option to disable or lengthen them.

But it has a few things going for it. It's not really combat focused - I mean, obviously you'll do a lot of it, but it's really simple, basically Civilization level. Pretty much any of your troops except Green Berets will beat VC or NVA forces head to head most of the time, and your Cobras, artillery, and tanks can give you a crushing firepower advantage, to say nothing of being able to periodically call in air strikes that give you free kills. The real meat of the gameplay is basically just maintaining supply lines - making sure helos and APCs are making regular supply runs to all your troops, setting up bases, constructing roads, cycling wounded troops and damaged vehicles to the rear, all in support of the simple aim of keeping your infantry regularly visiting as many villages as possible. It gets kind of frustrating finding an enemy who 90% of the time you won't see until you run over their mines or have your helos hosed up by an RPG, but the constant grind of just trying to keep things running smoothly in the face of an enemy that simply chips away at you enedlessly is what makes the game interesting and different too.
