OCS FTX is over, I kicked rear end there but now we have to do "recovery" for some dumb inspection. About a month until I'll be a LT. Get my branch next Monday, hope we get some good branch choices.

The reason for this is that any time you go to the field, you should inspect/inventory your unit afterwards to determine if anything was lost in the field. The Army totally wastes this by not actually bothering to explain it to cadets or OCS students so you don't realize why they did it until after you've been a company commander anyhow and don't need it anymore.

I get that part, it's the day and a half time frame and class 2 violations if weapons aren't clean enough that I don't get.

Something like 2 or 3 class 2s and you're recycled or recommended for dismissal. Usually it's things like a negligent discharge or having your phone when you aren't supposed to during basic phase or during a class.

I'm willing to bet they won't actually give you a "class 2 violation" but not cleaning your weapon spotless. Run that bitch under some hot water like everyone else does in basic to get it clean enough for them, gently caress it, not your gun good enough for government work

We didn't have to clean individual weapons at FA OBC very much but we did have to clean howitzers. You ought to see what comes out of the bore evacuator of a Paladin. The cordite makes a pile on the ground like a cow turd.

We were inspecting weapons for the scrubs going through ABOLC, and we kept knocking this guy's back because he just had the most amazingly blue eyes. Like he was wearing fluorescent contacts. Anyway, that's my gay army story.

Post-FTX washrack at ABOLC we washed the tanks for hours forgetting to take the bilge plates off beforehand. Cue me crawling under to remove the plate and getting a facefull of many gallons of water contaminated with dirt, POL, seed shells, dip spit, and piss.

Now that I think of it, I don't think we were ever issued rifles in AVBOLC ... our 'FTX' was a week of convoys where we got to go home every day. The rest of the course was just as worthless and they made sure we knew how to write a letter of introduction and use FM 25-50, never mind how to fill out a shortage annex or how the gently caress change of command inventories should work.

Doing anything else is probably better than sitting in any kind of staff meeting, especially a training meeting. Those are punishment for being stupid enough to volunteer to be in charge of anything related to the army.

the grass is always greener on the other side probably because enlisted were out there doing yard work though e: i would happily sit in a training meeting than spend my entire day doing stupid poo poo only to get off work and go to my luxurious barracks room making at most half of what those guys in charge of the the training meeting make. junior enlisted life doesn't end when the duty day is over, just fyi to all of you officers who have it so bad. Barracks life only really hits super lovely levels when you've got some fuckwit playing tin can dictator up in that bitch. Otherwise it's not the worst thing in the world. Well, assuming you aren't in one of those barracks that are trying to kill you with tainted water, black mold, or rabies from the rodents roaming freely or the dogs that attack people in packs.

not caring here posted:Barracks life only really hits super lovely levels when you've got some fuckwit playing tin can dictator up in that bitch. korea has several barracks buildings flat out condemned. you couldn't even walk into them without getting in trouble. the biggest problem i had with the barracks was the air conditioning. it wouldn't get turned on until it had been over a certain temp for a certain amount of days in a row. let one of those loving days be colder than whatever that arbitrary temperature is, and the count resets and you're still waiting. not to mention they put thermostats in the rooms so you can have visual proof that it's loving 86 degrees at 1am on a Friday morning and you have a ruck march in three hours (that really doesn't start for six hours because we have to wait for the company commander to get to work since for some reason he wants to join us on this one and we want to be ready before he is!). the moral of the story: the army is gay but the dick goes way deeper into enlisted.

I had to stay in these temp quarter barracks at Dix once for about 4 days. They were clean but they were obviously built in the 1950s to The hilarious thing about them was the centrally regulated steam heat that evidently ran October to April whether it was needed or not and was centrally controlled. In order to get the room heat down to tolerable levels, I had to run the window air conditioner full blast the entire time. To top it all off the entire building was plastered with random stickers that looked like they were from 1985 or so saying "Save Army Energy!"
