What was happening was if someone called my GV number it rang my phone like normal, but then it handed voicemail off to my carrier's VM, which I have never set up since I only use my GV number. So people kept saying my VM message was just a robo-voice giving them the wrong number...technically, it was the right number (in that it's my carrier number,) but they're all calling my GV number, so to them, it seemed like they had the wrong person. The fix was just to go into my dialer and disable the setting to use GV for VM, then re-enable it. There's nothing that I've found that says yopu have to do this if you switch phones...and I've never had to do it before. I went from a GNex on StraightTalk to an M7 on StraightTalk and I didn't have to do a thing to keep voicemail through GV. I then took the M7 to AT&T as part of a datashare plan, and again, didn't have to do a thing to keep the VM settings. But for some reason, this time when I switched it got messed up.

I was just exaggerating about the possible contents of her photos and why she cared so much if she accidentally posted some of them online. Honestly I have no idea and the only reason I said something because I didn't want to hear about the issue again.

Google really does have a marketing problem with auto backup. Even though I've told her many times that it doesn't, my mom thinks auto backup is going to insta-post to google plus.

Yeah its very stupid. The photos technically do show up under google plus, albeit only visible to you. It makes a lot more sense with how they are now putting them into google drive, I like it much better.

Cloud backup for photos is great because I don't want to lose pictures of my kid. But people also take plenty of other pictures that don't really matter (that are also not nudes) and it's a pain that those clutter your cloud backup. This isn't even a Google specific thing, iCloud photo stream is the same way. I can see why Snapchat has a convincing use case beyond dick pics; I assume it doesn't crap up your photo stream if you send a friend a goofy picture, or send your wife a picture from Home Depot to see what she thinks of that plant for the front yard. Having photos go to a folder in your Drive account has always been my top want for Google's photo service simply because it makes it way, way easier to prune out those goofy photos. As soon as it went live on my account I say down at the PC where my poo poo syncs too and just went through the folder deleting all the dumb "hey guys look at this crazy thing" photos I had accumulated.

I just switched from a Galaxy S4 to an S6. On the S4, when I received a text message, the screen would wake up briefly. It was great for noticing new texts out of the corner of your eye. Now on the S6 the screen doesn't wake. All it does is flash the very small indicator light, which is trickier to notice. Is there a way to get the phone to wake to the lock screen when I receive a text? Is it because the default messenger app is currently Verizon Messenger? The default Samsung SMS app is so much uglier.

Lots of American tourists end up getting arrested for child porn. Especially the drunk driving ones that didn't even realize they crossed an international border.

To those who use Google Voice exclusively: How reliable has it been for you lately? I'm tempted to switch the nerd plan again and use it, but I switched away about a year ago because of weirdness with calls not going through, texts arriving randomly, etc...

I use GV voice for all text and calls. I have an older, better known number that I wanted to bring to ATT because I managed to get a grandfathered unlimited plan there. It's honestly not bad. The GV app allows you to make all calls via the stock dialer through GV, no matter what dialer it is. You can only text through hangouts, but it app isn't poo poo so whatever. Whenever you try to text via Google voice commands though it goes through your built-in number, so that's out. You get the added benefit of being able to text and call via hangouts on any computer, and an iPad app. The downside is no group texts, and being locked in to GV. There's also an older problem with 911 calls I think? Not sure if that's ever been resolved. You are also locked into android, because GV integration is poo poo with the iPhone. I'm slowly trying to move all my contacts to my new actual number so if in the future I jump ship, it won't be awful.

The number was originally on VZW and then I moved it to GV so it would work on ATT. The problem is that to keep the unlimited data plan, I basically can't touch it. I can't replace the number on that plan with a ported number.

Can I just say I'll never buy a Samsung again after my rather terrible experiences with them so far? This is more regarding their old phones than their current offering, but my experiences soured me on trying them again. My original Galaxy S never got beyond 2.6.3. Wouldn't have been too bad if it hadn't included a (for me, dunno if other people experienced it too) annoying bug where the phone would randomly freeze while paging through the App screens, requiring a battery pull and reboot every time it happened, with no way to predict when it'd show up. So I replaced it with an S3 Mini a little over two years ago. Which never went beyond 4.1.2. After a little over a year of use, the battery started to swell. Got it replaced by Samsung via a warranty claim in june of last year(during which they first sent me the battery for a regular S3 as opposed to the S3 Mini). Recently it started having battery issues(draining down to 5% in about 9 hours or so), tried fixing it by uninstalling apps, replacing apps, factory reset, the works. Eventually I just bought a new phone about 3 weeks ago. Switched off the Mini after transferring data, pulled the battery just to be safe. Went to check it yesterday to see if I could pull off some more files I might have forgotten. Turns out the new, less than a year old, battery is also swelling to the point where it actively deforms the rear panel if I try to put it in and the contacts no longer make contact properly, so I can't even access anything on it as it'll refuse to boot without a battery installed. I submitted a new claim today, maybe they'll replace it again? I'd kinda like to have a backup phone, even if it's a shitpiece.

Has anyone noticed their Qi chargers make a faint clicking or chirping sound? Originally noticed it on my Tylt Vu, but I got a second charger the other day and now I'm hearing something from that one as well, though it is distinctly different in tone. Seems to come and go. I'm assuming it's some sort of coil whine?

Just loud enough to wake me up at 3 am or so when my phone finishes charging, so I moved the Tylt to my desk at work where the background noise drowns it out. Luckily the puck QI charger that came with my S6 doesn't make any such noise, just an annoyingly bright LED that's easy enough to cover.
