Man, I still can't shake this funk. I just feel so... listless lately. I always feel better after lunch after I take my half-dose of klonopin, but every day it seems between about 9:00 and 12:00 I'm just blindsided by a severe depression that really just sucks. What's weird is that yesterday I forgot to bring my klonopin (and took it with dinner instead of lunch) but I still felt better after lunch, as if I had taken it. It was noticeable. Usually my nihilism balances out my depression but lately it seems the depression has been overpowering it, and that's something. And I feel that as I get older it's only going to get worse.

Still eating gluten? Sounds like you fell off that wagon at red robin a few days back. It takes a while of consistently not eating that stuff.

Weather like this makes me miss doing telephone pole work in the boonies last year. Sooooo nice out right now. At least my last class for the year is tonight!

I don't feel bad after eating the stuff. Last week I did meet with a gastroenterologist that has a hard-on for giving me an endoscopy, to the tune of $700. I don't really have reflux symptoms anymore since I've been taking a probiotic and watching what I eat more (ie less sugary stuff, no spicy stuff, etc) and taking my prevacid when I should (an hour before meals rather than with meals). I'm currently scheduled for an endoscopy but am probably going to cancel (maybe reschedule as a 'routine' endoscopy, which I think is covered by my insurance 100% ). I feel physically better than I was, but mentally going off the rails it seems. It makes no sense, I enjoy my job and it pays well, I don't really have anything to be depressed about save from the general human condition, it's just a real legitimate depression without any triggers or warnings about when it'll strike. edit: I don't regret Red Robin, that poo poo is the bomb. edit edit: sorry, I'm just kinda whining without a point. Gluten intolerance is pretty rare, and most of the anti-gluten stuff is just new age woo. Get the loving endoscopy and let the gastroenterologist do his job.

poo poo, I need to take a personal day to drink and smoke cigars. Four days left teaching some of the best kids I've ever taught and I'm sitting here with the knowledge that the new principal has fired all of us is incredibly heartbreaking. Plus I have no clue where I will be teaching next year. Then I get to look forward to working in auto parts full time during the summer instead of just weekends. Yay. A day off to drink and smoke with my dog would be much appreciated right now.

I don't know if it was stress-induced. It may have been. I think I also had a really bad stomach bug that was making it bad. I don't want to gently caress with the gastro anymore really, which is why I'm considering cancelling my endoscopy. I don't see a reason for it anymore, unless my symptoms come back. I think I do get a free routine endoscopy (a free routine colonoscopy as well, aw yeah) per year, which this wouldn't be. I may reschedule it as a routine, I need to check a few things though. My appt isn't for another month. My big complaint right now is just a great big near-crippling case of ennui or something similar. An endoscopy sure isn't going to help much with that.

Speaking of taking time off, I found out today that a former employee who would call out alllllll the time for being sick/having a sick kid/having mental and emotional issues is now on probation at her new employer for taking too much time off unscheduled. This is after said former employee missed several weeks straight under a bogus FMLA sadbrains claim that was actually denied because she couldn't get a doctor to back up her "symptoms" as medically necessary to miss work and she quit on the spot about noon the day she returned...then badmouthed all of management in our department in a bitchy e-mail to HR after declining to do an exit interview with them by phone. Good riddance and serves her right.

I have had a few interesting offers, but they want me to move to San Francisco, which isn't happening. The cost of living is bad enough in seattle, not moving to one of the few cities that is higher.

I only get 10 days of sick leave per year, and at the end of the year the company will take half of whatever is left and bank the other half. Therefore, I use it all up every single year.

I get 10 holidays a year, and ~160 hours of PTO total. The company has a yearly shutdown during the winter holiday timeframe that eats 36-48 hours of that, depending on how the days fall. My office is pretty cool with folks working remotely, so stuff like "I'm waiting at the dealership for my car's oil change to be done" or "My daughter has a dental appointment at noon so I'm WFH today" is fairly common. When you've got that kind of flexibility, "personal days" aren't as necessary as, say, someone working a warehouse job.

I never had enough PTO to take them in the past, because I take two trips per year to visit family. It's the only time my parents get to see their granddaughter. But last year I started earning 3 weeks plus sick time, so now I take a day once every quarter or so. There are no work holidays for me between New year's and Memorial day, so I took two so far this year. Also turned this weekend in to a 4 day. My last job was great with the benefits, they took all bank holidays off. If you don't get mail, you don't go to work. It was the first time since school I've had presidents day off.

And I don't care if I am lazy, Americans work way to drat hard and skip vacations thinking it will get them ahead, which is silly logic. Being burnt out from work will just make poor quality work.
