Also did the earlier games have weapon/armour durability? I didn't remember it but it's really dull and pointless.

Combat is anything but sloppy.

And durability is poo poo and pointless, yes.

Still, like the story and characters; just a shame that it isn't really enjoyable going through the gameplay. Maybe I'll eventually get used to it but it's still a rubbish system.
Yea, this too. Alchemy is dull, crafting is dull and the skill tree is a bloody disgrace. And they limit your abilities! I don't even see what the gently caress for; just so you're not good at everything all the time except you can just switch around on the fly if you want?

I don't have a problem with the combat? I dunno what to say. Stop comparing it to Bloodborne.

It's not bad, though. It's just, according to a lot of the bitching threads/articles I've read recently, not enough like Skyrim or Bloodborne. Bad gamers fear and hate things that are different.
It's not very different though. The combat system is similar to Ninja Gaiden, but way clunkier and less thought out.

I've never played Ninja Gaiden so I can't comment, but again I have to say I have no issues with the combat. I find it fun and actiony with enough strategy using the dodges and signs/items to keep things interesting.

I'm really enjoying the combat, actually. Yeah, it's not super TIGHT, but it's pretty drat good. The best open world RPG combat I've played, as far as I can remember. Agreed with item durability, it really sucks. One thing that took me too long to realize is that repair all repairs everything in your inventory. Wish they had a button to just repair equipped items. Either way though, I hope they tune the degradation a bit, either slow it down or make it cheaper to fix.

Tried PC version and I'm surprised I can play this quite well. 35 to 45 FPS on mostly high settings all around, game looks good and feels better than the PS4 janky version. By all means I expected to not even be able to run it period but I guess all the benchmark tests were bullshit.

The concepts behind the combat are good, but the execution of the control systems is pretty bad. It's mostly frustrating because its half way to being a really good system, but an unpolished implementation of animation locked attacks and some dodgey target locking really spoils it.

Edit: I will concede that it is better than any other open world combat system, but that's more due to the competition being so terrible. Still, I'd rather have an unpolished but conceptually solid system like this than say Skyrims bland and skilless axe swinging.

Warning to everyone you can only buy 1 respec potion ever. After you buy one it disappears from all the other merchants. Guess I am stuck with the choices I made. I checked 3 different alchemy merchants and none of them had it anymore after I had used one 20 hours earlier or so.

Have you checked the dude that sells "rare magic artifacts" in a shop above the barber in Novigrad? He sells one. Marked as a normal merchant on the map.

A big problem with the combat I've found is how short the leash range on enemies is. Another thing borrowed from MMOs. I have to dodge a lot in combat and it's really annoying how often enemies de-aggro and run back to their post.

So does anyone have an idea as to where the journeyman smiths are in Velen?

It's the exact opposite I find. There are places where you just cannot go if you aren't leveled/pimped out enough. Found an area in southern Velen which must have some demon possessing the land surrounding a hill because goddamn it has insane beasts guarding each of its slopes. Fiends/Basilisks, and a cyclops a bot to the south. Fiends are loving terrifying.

I agree.

I also agree with the minority, and combat really is pretty lovely. I think a lot of it is to do with, what I perceive as command lag.

If you choose to rescue the couple, some random old guy will die. I suppose if you ditch them they will die. It doesn't seem to matter much though. Triss will moan a bit about how much it sucks that that one dude died.

Oh man enhanced beast and insectoid oils, these'll help ou-- gently caress, I don't have the base versions. :smith:

Not a huge fan of how random the alchemy formulae you find seems to be. I just found those two oils and now they'll sitting useless until I find the base versions to upgrade into them. At which point no bear or giant bug will be safe.

Edit: Speaking of the serpentine swords, I see people complaining about finding the Emerald Dust a lot and I found out after playing through White Orchard again with a friend that wraiths drop it pretty frequently. There are two you can kill in White Orchard, though you might have to save scum to get the dust if they don't drop it the first time. I just made the silver sword and didn't bother with the steel since what I had was almost as good (and I've since found better).

Tell us your graphics card.

I have a 760 @ 1680.1050 and run with medium water, high everything else, ultra detail. No AA, medium shadows. I get about 45-50fps. Game is pretty as gently caress.
