You scan them each day for a daily mission. The missions appear to just be single player levels with you locked to one of two weapons or the kraken super. You appear to get regular currency or a chance at the rare exclusive gearset (schoolgirl for girl, robot for squid, something else for boy)

It sounds like it came from Nintendo's experimental phases where they divide into small teams and make demos of creative ideas. I guess I should have known that the ink splattering idea came before they squid theme. I guess the rabbits were supposed to be cartoons dueling each other with the ink that created them? Weird transforming squids was a marked improvement.

I still think octopuses should have been the playable characters. Octopi don't deserve to be villains. Octopodes are way more lovable than squids.

Being a kid and then being a Squid makes sense, however being a kid and then being an octopus doesn't sound quite so right. Plus Nintendo is racist against Octoroks. That said I have always loved their game making approach of "make the game itself first, add art design and story later".
