The one use case is if you're walking back to your car on a hot day and can't bare to stand for a second after lowering the windows, and the detraction is potentially ruining your car because you forgot to take your keys out of your pocket while sitting down. Looking online it can probably be disabled with a bit of work, but I wish it was just a setting in the dash (that was disabled by default.) Geoj posted:Does it work to put the windows up? I could see that feature being useful in the event you left your windows down on a warm day and it suddenly starts raining... Yes, you hold the lock button for a few seconds and the windows come back up.

It's a fantastic feature when it's 90+ degrees every day from May to October like where I live and you have stupid leather seats that will give you an actual burn. Opening the sunroof and windows expels most of the 140 degree air that's inside the car (and yes, I've left a thermometer inside to check).

Between this and the whole "using a repeater to unlock your car with the keys in the house" it sounds like you need a Faraday cage to hold your keys! I would have worried about this in Vermont, but I parked far enough away that the keys didn't work inside. Also, my 3 series key has a really, really short range, yours must be made of magic or something.

My '06 325i has that feature, and I agree it great for hot days so I can open the windows while I'm walking up. Mine doesnt' close the windows with the lock button though, which would actually be more useful when I invariably forget to roll the rear windows back up and get out of the car.

You can code that in with one of the software bits. I can't recall if BMWhat (now Carly for BMW) does it, you might need a laptop and the whole suite.

My '08 3-series (the V8 one) has a programmable timer that will crack the windows and pull in fresh air through the blower to get hot air out and then put the windows back up when it's done. It recommends only using it once per day to avoid draining the battery but it's pretty handy to have it do that 5 minutes before coming back out to a hot car after work, on the occasion I have to park on the roof.

You could turn your key into the door lock and hold it to have all the windows roll down and the sun roof pop up or vice versa. Pretty useful if I'd left a window down or wanted to purge the car of hot air.

If I had to guess, axle tramp on a leaf-sprung live axle caused a failure of either the RHS spring or mounts, at which point the axle assembly rotated relative to the surviving LHS mount, creating a force vector for which it wasn't designed, thus precipitating a second point of failure. From there, nothing's* actually holding the axle captive any more and it's free to roam the world, looking for another axle with which it can settle down and start squirting out other 8.25" diffs. Assuming that it wasn't just a failure to torque important things. *: brake lines, like earthing straps, don't count as mounting hardware. Edit, better explanation: The rear axle has pupated, and has burst forth from its chrysalis. Once exposed to air, its wings and exoskeleton will harden and then it will set off to find a mate. It's good for whoever was driving that the back end of the car went up over the curb. Getting into an accident with another vehicle because yours decided to spontaneously disassemble itself would be kind of difficult to explain "No, you see officer..."

Chevy doesn't have the lock/roll up feature. Also, the thing has remote start, which means I can remotely turn the air conditioning on, which is a hell of a lot better than swapping the hot inside air for only-slightly-less-hot outside air. Apparently it can be disabled, but the dealer has to do it. Asking a GM dealer to do anything more complicated than tie their shoelaces is dangerous.

You would not believe the amount of people who buy huge trucks and don't think about the price of tires. Then they run them bald to save money but still believe their vehicle is safe for winter driving and crash into everything making my insurance go up. It's a tire shaped poo poo circle that begins and ends in the brain of a suburban dad who builds a deck and suddenly needs a truck.

Speaking of trucks: Here in Australia Dodge Rams cost a fortune, this family had just paid $110 000 for a 2013 model that was imported/converted (I think thats why it cost heaps). Cause of fire: Electrical Fault in the truck....The terrible car stuff is what the conversion company must have done with the electrics to cause the fire.

Australia is a weird parallel universe where the ute rose to prominence instead of the pickup truck..

Seat Safety Switch posted:What does the Dodge Ram have that trucks more available in Australia don't? Is it a size thing, or just a "hur hur check out my sweet USDM import?" It is 100% this. It's usually middle aged white people with an irrational love of "americana" that they don't really understand at all. This is why here you can buy a 2001 F150 Harley Davidson edition for a mere 35 grand! Or if you're from the other side of the V8 MATE camp you can buy a 2005 Chevy Silverado SS for only 60 grand! Finally, a Dodge Ram 1500 2003 for 42,000. They have no benefits over a australian/NZDM ute whatsoever and, indeed, are actually extra useless here because they don't fit in any of the parking spots and are often too wide for driveways/side roads so literally the only reason to buy one is having too much money, not enough sense and a hard-on for american wankery.* *:no offence to americans intended.
