Hey guess what there is an OSHA Chipper-Shredder Safety Manual (PDF) that is a quick and easy read!

It says fun amazing things like:

quote:

Always work in groups of two or more. Be aware at all times of the location of coworkers.
...
Safe Shutdown Procedures
4
Disconnect the power supply and remove key. You can tell the machine has stopped when no noise or vibration is heard.
...
Keep hands and feet outside of the feed chute.
...
Before attempting to unclog debris or make adjustments:
1. Shut off engine.
2. Disconnect spark plug wire or battery cables (if equipped).
3. Remove key.
4. Disconnect PTO shaft (if equipped).
5. Wait for all parts to stop moving.

You can use the shut-off bar to shut off a wood chipper. You should not use the shut-off bar as the only means of protection when shoving your limbs into the feed to clear a jamb. There is a shut-off/lock-out procedure for when you absolutely must get into the chipper to clear debris. You also shouldn't be operating a chipper alone.

Woooo this is not hard stuff.

You can also calculate the speed and length of the chain by counting the white links!

I have no idea how it works though.

Each red painted link is 90' apart, otherwise known as a shot of chain.

Also, that's not a great way to do that, we would put the windlass in gear and walk it out under power. Much safer that way instead of just turning off a questionable brake.

I've never lowered it all the way to the bottom on the windlass, most I've done is a shot out then go... But then we didn't intentionally anchor in 200+ feet of water.

Those guys are lucky no one died, a runaway anchor like that is pretty much the nightmare scenario. The amount of dirt and rocks and scale that flies out of the spurring pipe can be downright amazing.

That episode of Intervention with the meth fiend shows best practice for chainsaws.
1 -Be high as gently caress
2- Be crazy and hunt for mythical wood
3- Camera crew (prob horrified) optional

Solo chainsawing is ok on meth because it helps you focus, and work hard

Nah, probably wood. They load vehicles this way in poorer countries, and usually use some sort of strong but pliable hardwood.

Ships are run by the government, docks are run by the poor, and only the upper middle class and above could even approach owning a truck like that. I'd bet any money that's a truck being loaded up to go to some rich guy who lives in a smaller town with no road connection to the ports.

Seriously, getting new vehicles of certain makes can be super expensive in poor countries, as you essentially have to get private shipping from a richer country, and usually end up paying at least twice what the vehicle is worth. One of my South American friends bought a Rav-4 when I was last there, and he ended up paying something like $60k to get it into the country. Well, former friend. Last I heard he was in court on murder charges.

Given how blasé they were about shoving rocks under there, I can only assume "it's happened before and they did this and it worked", which is almost more :catstare: than it would be otherwise.

Not knowing the language, I can only assume the reassuring man is saying "No, no, it's supposed to do that! See, tides, they come in and out, so the water goes up and down, it's fine!"

That doesn't even compare to some of the poo poo I've seen in person. I've lost count of how many times the solution to the problem of "Oh no, we've overloaded the ferry and now it's stuck on the banks" is straight up having the largest trucks rev up towards the end of the ferry and break together to jolt the ferry free.

Almost, he's basically saying "See, told you the water would get this far". The woman freaking out says she's going to send the video to the port authority right at the end.

I honestly doubt it would make any difference if she did, ferry services are notoriously hosed all around the country.

I'm there, man. If I had the money I'd leave now. I've wanted to visit Brazil for a while, now I *really* want to visit, and put my gopro through its paces.

And I'll buy one of those weirdo Chevy utes and ship it (by something other than a Brazilian ferry) up here to Canada.
