So I finally broke down and got the core set, plus an X-wing and a Y-wing expansion at my FLGS. I played my dad using the quickstart rules, 1 X-wing vs 2 Ties. Our first match ended after a couple round when this happened: Technically, I think that the fighters would just sit there with the bases touching, but we decided to rule that they all just flew into each other and decided to start over. The second game ended with my dad (Playing as the imperials) winning, though both of his TIEs had taken two damage cards. This game is fun as gently caress, I don't know why I didn't get it earlier. I don't really care too much for the imperials, so any advice on what I should get next? What expansions are Hobbie and Wes Janson in? Right, and that's how we did it in the second match, but it was just too drat funny not to end it with all three fighters ramming into each other.

How hard would a 3x Autothruster Interceptor squad be to fly? Interceptors look baller as hell but Autothrusters are pretty much mandatory on them. Thinking of just having Soontir & Carnor & Royal Guard pilot in identical ships.

It's quite viable so long as you've got a good head for maneuvering and keeping yourself from getting overly exposed. I've ripped non-turreted squads apart without taking damage.

My boyfriend was stopping by a game store and asked me if I wanted anything. I asked him to pick me up 3 TIE Phantoms. I wanted the Tacticians for stacking in a Hound's Tooth when it comes out, but the ship itself also interests me. I hope it's not too cheap.

Regionals tomorrow! My LGS is FFG itself, so we'll have the best players from the entire Midwest in town! Last year I made top 4, this year I'm not as confident, but we'll see! I'm running: Corran w/ VI, FCS, R2D2, and Engine Chewie w/ Lone Wolf, Falcon title, C-3PO, Lando, and Experimental Interface I just got them both painted up by a friend in exchange for some promos too. Corran with some green accents and the Falcon in it's original Stellar Envoy colors! Anyone else have a regional tomorrow?

Soontir/Carnor/RG with PtL, autos and stealth is viable. There's about 8 people at this regional I'm at (Aldershot) flying just that.

First game was a total mirror match (identical lists). Lost it by a whole ONE point because the TO called time as we'd just picked up our dials and told us to play one more round. I'd killed his Carnor in the last round before time, and he landed a crit on my Soontir who'd already taken a hit earlier and the crit turned out to be a direct hit. On the plus side, this was the best game of X-Wing I've ever played since it entirely boiled down to positioning. e; second game was 0-100 against Fat Han and a Luke with Lone Wolf and R5D6? The one that lets you spend focus for a shield at end of round. Lost it because I tried to shoot Luke down, rolled really poorly, and got worn down over the rest of the game by Han. Third game was against Dash in Outrider with Mangler + 2 Red Squadrons, which I won 100-34 - traded Carnor for his 51 point Dash early, then leisurely picked off the X-wings. e2; game four: 12-64. gently caress 4BZ, they're a giant loving pile of bullshit. e3; final game: 24-100. Went against 4 Scum Ys with ion turrets, two with BTL, two with seismic charges. RG got walked off the board, the other two just died from chip damage. Not going to bother trying to fly three Inties any more. It's way too swingy because all you have is 3HP per ship, it doesn't have enough stopping power at range 3 and it's loving trash against B-wings, which are everywhere. So, we had an unofficial tournament Thursday here. The winner was super dash and corran, and that was the only netlist in attendance. Highlights include Whisper with two omnicron shuttles Dude rocking Wes, Wedge and Luke a 6 a-wing swarm Garven, Dutch and 2 red Squadron Pilots And ym list of Jake, Ten with mangler, and Wedge with EU and expert handling. I played list 1 and 4 and had them chase Jake around for literally 8 turns (Lost both times, but Jake Soloed Garven and one of the shuttles before dying) All in all a fun day!

Y'know, looking at a picture of a X-Wang TIE swarm it struck me that they really need some Gunpla-style actionbase so you can change up the "pose" on these space ships. Maybe just sticking some sort of polycap on the top of the thing that connects to the ship-bottom would work? TIE-Fighters just look way too static if they aren't banking and poo poo as they go.

One proto died, then time was called. Corran was on last legs.

Tekopo posted:I think I settled my list for the coming regional I'm going to this weekend. Tried it today and it did alright: Game 1: The original matchup was me and LemonCurdistan with his 3 intie list out of random chance and I felt confidant, only for them to redo the schedules. I ended up flying against a 4BZ. Now, this was a matchup that I had been dreading since in effect my list is a slightly weaker version of the 4BZ but with additional power to take on arc-dodger/high agility enemies. It actually came very close and the game ended with all my stuff destroyed, one of his B-Wings without shields and another B-Wing with 1 HP! Overall it was a very exciting match. Lost 56 - 100 Game 2: Went against 2 B-Wings with FCS and a turtling Chewie setup (PtL/Recon Specialist/Millenium Falcon/Jan Ors, which meant he could PtL to get 2 evades and 1 focus a turn). I managed to destroy a B-Wing early on but I then tried to chase chewie and I just couldn't do much damage and I was pretty much out of it, with everyone on my side destroyed. Lost 24 - 100 Game 3: flew against an Echo with ACD/VI, a Soontir with Autos/PtL/TC and a Carnor Jax with PtL/Autos (iirc). My opponent lost Soontir early after, for some reason, he thought my Y-Wing had the title (he got tagged by Ten Numb first and then blasted by the Y-Wing), then he made a mistake and just clipped a debris field, which meant that he couldn't cloak with Echo for two turns. I had lost Ten Numb by then but Echo got taken out by the Y-Wing and then Carnor didn't stand much of a chance. Won 100 - 36 Game 4: flew against a Vessery with Mangler, Lone Wolf and Stealth device and Chiraneau with Expose, Weapon Engineer and EI (iirc). I felt confident about this matchup and he decided to fly Vessery straight at my clump of ships. Managed to take him out eventually with Ten Numb and then sent the Y-Wing and 2 B-Wings to take on the Decimator. Got lucky and didn't lose a single ship! Won 100 - 0 Final Game: flew against 3x alpha inties with Autos, 2 academy pilots and dark curse. We basically had a gigantic bumping party in the middle starting with me using my Y-Wing and Ten Numb to take out one of the alpha inties (no one expects the Y-Wing and I just flew him aggressively in the middle of the enemies). We exchanged fire but mine was more concentrated (and I got luckier in some regards) and I managed to destroy his guys one by one. My Y-Wing had 1 HP at the end but Ten Numb and his auto-hit finally wrapped up. Won 100 - 0. My last two wins boosted my Margin of Victory enough that I came in 16th (out of 57 participants), which meant I was in the top 16 and managed to get some nice acrylic shield tokens as a reward! All in all, a good day of flying and I really enjoyed flying the above list!

It's the best way to fight them (and Han doesn't care anyway) but you'll see people who haven't realize this yet drop Fat Han in frustration. This is better for true believers like me. I found fat Han in a parallel evolution situation and didn't even realize he was a popular archetype until late last year.

How prickly are people about card proxies in this game, generally? I'm kind of leery of buying in when I'd have to buy a shitload of ships that I have no interest in using just to get the card or two that's meta-critical.

In casual, nobody usually cares in my experience if you proxy some stuff as long as you've got the ship models (because really, without the ships, you're just moving cardboard squares around and that's boring). In tournaments you need everything legit.

Just got home from our regionals. Was a fun day, ended up 3-2 with a list (and faction) I've never flown before. I took Chiraneau w Expose, Vader, Rebel Captive & Ysanne and Fel w PTL, stealth, autothrusters and the title. The funniest part of the day was a buddy who hasn't played much xwing at all decided to come along and play and brought the only ship he has ever flown as his entire list, 35pts worth of Soontir. His opponents reactions when going through lists and setup was priceless. He ended up 2-3 thanks to a bye as well.

His strategy was to kill a ship then play keep away. His actual win was against BBBBZ, he killed the Z and 3 B's had their dials set for the wrong turn and flew off the board. He almost took down a Fat Han list with 2 of the Z's killed but a blinded pilot meant he couldn't keep pulling Soontir shenanigans to stay at range 3 and was finally killed with about 4 minutes in the round left. He'd maybe played 2-3 times before today, and only in the 32pt single ship events that get run at the LGS.
