The only real complaint I have is that I wish there was an easier way to see how much ink you have. It's not a real big issue, but sometimes it's hard to keep track of it in a fight.

Nintendo of Japan's been uploading more weapon showcases to YouTube beyond that sick Aerospray MG video that got passed around a while ago. There's some pretty kickass play in parts of these. So far there's the four demo weapons, but hopefully they upload a couple more oddball weapons before launch. Aforementioned Aerospray MG vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ma0d0TRwYfg Splat Charger: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWididP-gQw Splattershot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzoypKcAmsU Splat Roller: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ANF9TGvprE Splattershot Jr.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7S5VNvglH_g

When you splat an Inkling why do they pop in the ink color of YOUR team? Are they just violently purging the wrong-colored ink from their body (Along with their weapons and clothes)?

Exactly. You're overloading their temporary mortal shells with your ink until it spreads throughout their system like some inky cancer. Their decontamination system goes into overdrive and purges the lot. Good thing they respawn.

Here’s a pro-tip: dried squid is pretty hard to chew with your molars, so try grinding it up with your front teeth until it gets softer. How is this going to help you in Splatoon? I dunno, but it tastes great! Contextually, this is kind of disturbing. They're eating inklings!

kind of hosed up that you can't even do online battles with one other person locally. basically means girlfriend will have to take turns with me, that completely sucks. maybe if they sold seperate gamepads but of course not because nintendo is retarded.

If your gamepad breaks you can buy a separate gamepad from Nintendo. But as of right now the hardware supports 2 pads but exactly zero software (including the console OS) does.

Right, so, completed single player. It's not exactly a long campaign once you know what you're doing (27 stages with five boss battles, or 32 overall), particularly if you manage to get the scrolls on first runs through (as I attempted, and typically succeeded in, doing). It is, however, pretty engaging, since even in the event they reuse a map, they'll vary the enemies and layout to and spice things up (and for the most part, succeed). Boss battles manage to have consistency enough to seem like they're part of a proper set (for which there is actually is a story weapon), but nevertheless not play by a single ruleset, which is good since I'd initially thought they'd all follow roughly the same model. The final boss, meanwhile, is simultaneously one of the most outrageous, hilarious, and quite frankly awesome bosses that Nintendo has ever put together. DJ Octavio was a challenging but satisfying final fight, and I cannot wait to see what the rest of the world thinks of them.

The two gamepads thing will never happen but the lack of real local multiplayer content still sucks. Even just a Metroid Blast-style PvE mode would be more interesting than what they're offering. (Online PvE should probably be a thing at some point, too.)

You only have so many man-hours and so many dollars to throw at the development of a game, and since the wii u is mostly a local multiplayer box at my house I'm a little disappointed at the lack of local multi content, but I can also understand their wanting to get the online experience 1000% nailed down before release. That's clearly the most important thing to the game's survivability, and if the test fires are any indication they've loving nailed it. I could see a LAN mode for offline turf war coming later on - they do seem to have an awful lot of content planned post launch. Sade fucked around with this message at 16:29 on May 24, 2015 |

They didn't get their online experience 1000% down though; People here were saying that you can't actually lobby with friends for several months, and your only option to play with them is to join off them once they find a game and (a) hope there's slots, and (b) hope it puts you on the team you want. Which works kinda passably though really not if it's just two people, but if you want to play with more it gets increasingly dumb. Game still looks cool but yeah, no lobbies has already got two of my friends to pass (for now) on picking it up.

How in the world is the gamepad a detriment to the Wii U? It's amazingly comfortable for its size, and opens up sooooo much game design space. It's only downsides are battery life (play while plugged in, buy an extended battery, or just don't play for 4+ hours in one sitting) and a weak rumble (not much you can do about that one.)

Probably the fact that you can only use one, and that it increased the price of the console by a big amount. Its a huge boon, but I can see why it'd make some people leery. Now if they let you sync up multiple and let us play Four Swords Adventures 2? Then it'd be perfect.
