The only thing I dislike about the gamepad is that the light from the screen can get distracting if you're playing in a dark room. It's not a big deal in games like Pikmin 3 or Wind Waker when the extra screen is giving you a dimly colored map, but it's really distracting in games like Captain Toad where it's mirroring the (super colorful and bright) main screen. Usually you can fix this by using a pro controller, but sometimes they make you use the gamepad for no good reason (again, Captain Toad).

I think you can turn down the brightness in the home menu settings, or do you mean it's still bright then?

Okay, so. I want to get the lyrics for Splat the World, for... reasons (okay, okay, I want to make it into a karaoke track). I've figured out most of them, but there's some words I can't hear at all what they're supposed to be. I've put what I've managed on pastebin, anyone good at identifying words that can figure out what those ???s are supposed to be?

"game only on WiiU" "rapidly wide" "a long straight line" "massive ink bath" "Or go inside" Not sure about the last one. "Undoused" maybe?

"You won't leave without an ink douse" maybe? It's awkward but I can't think of anything else it could be.

Yeah those all make sense and sound right. I thought it should be "straight line" at first but couldn't stop hearing it as one more syllable than that so I became unsure.

Also getting to a new spot in the same area when you have been spotted seems to help too. Like having a splat charger stay an protect the big area on the Saltspray Rig while on top of any of the boxes or that moving platform.

gently caress Four Swords 2, I'd love a re-release of the first one with that kind of game pad\3DS support. It's the only Zelda I don't own asides from Skyward Sword

I'm really curious to see what happens when people get their hands on the inkbrush and some speed-boosting equipment. Seems like it could get pretty nasty.

Whelp Nintendo is playing the squidkid ad in theaters, and whether you hate it or love it you gotta admit it works. For the rest of the previews some little boy behind me was having the time of his life until his mother put an end to it : I'M A KID! I'M A SQUID! I'M A KID! I'M A SQUID! I'M A KID! I'M A SQUID! I have young cousins (ten and five) that don't really know much Nintendo and came to visit this weekend, when one of them saw the Splatoon icon on the gamepad he got excited and asked if we could play "that cool game they show on tv" so that was cool. Then I tried and failed to explain the concept of digital pre-purchase and preload to him.

Icedude posted:The Splash Wall on the other hand doesn't really look too useful at all on wide open maps like Saltspray, I get that it'd be good to block off a narrow hallway from approaching enemies, but at no point in that video was it used usefully. Every time there was either nobody else there, they were using the Killer Wail at the same time, or they could have just shot them.

Splash wall seems like it would be useful with more team co-ordination because it 100% blocks off an escape route on the right maps or allows you to not be pursued, if there's a long hallway you can duck into and close it off with the Splash Wall and the only other entrance is a drop-off like on one of the demo maps. I'd like to think of it as a temporary cave-in. Speaking of co-ordination, I understand that my internet connection is poo poo in the basement on the good T.V. But was anyone trying to V.O.I.P. during the Splatoon testfires? I found the gamepad and my Voip program were getting constant interference from each other causing my controls to cut-out or my friends to cut out. I also get the same problem with Mario Kart 8 completely disconnecting me from voip about half the time when it switches from multiplayer lobby to starting the race, but that's when i'm using the gamepad and not a pro controller. The gamepad is required by Splatoon and seems to need to constantly communicate with the Wii U to get information for the minimap and such I suppose.

Nintendo wants the software to provide it's own VOIP. To get around it you could just use a phone or tablet set to speaker, or nerd it up with laptop and whatever voice software you want.
