It's been that way since at least the mid-80s.

Spicy Guacamole posted:I used the published specification for the cargo hold of a C-130 as the volume and divided that by the volume of a ping pong ball. Although a ping pong ball is a sphere, and therefore you won't actually fit 3.14 million of them into just the cargo area of the aircraft, the volume of a sphere is about 70% of a cube with equivalent dimensions. I think it's fair to say that the cargo hold represents 70% of the total internal volume of a C-130, give or take, so it's still a fair estimate. Not a bad estimate. Close-packing of equal spheres gives a 74% packing density.

Some colonel will make them smash them all flat to get the air out allowing for 18 times more to be flown in, and then have two e-3's refill them all with a pair of contractor procured syringes at a cost of $1.2 mil a piece, 4 will have been ordered, 2 will have been delivered, 7 will have been paid for. They will not form enough vacuum when pulled back to fill the balls without at least 4 attempts or the e-3's breaking down and trying to blow them up with their mouths.

Vertical nets perpendicular to the longitudinal axis, and you can basically pump the things through a dryer hose using an air compressor - they use them sometimes to refloat sunken boats. You'd still have some space at the top I'm sure but the thing would be pretty drat full.

The only authorized shark teeth in the USAF are the descendant unit of the original Flying Tigers. 23rd Fighter Group, A-10s, with an FT tail code. I honestly don't understand how this hasn't been crushed in the past 5 years.
