For only 1600 dollars you can sorta move forward while standing awkwardly on a floating thing. With lots of camera cuts so you can't see it barely moving.

I don't know why but I feel like this is the most hilarious thing I've seen on kickstarter yet. Clearly a lot of engineering and effort went into this product but it's both completely useless and in no way has a place in any market what so ever.

Also Burland being Scotland also included a change that the guy you go to see in the village jail isn't insane, he's a a drunk. I can't imagine someone on the translation team didn't think "hey wouldn't a drunken Scotsman be a bit much of a stereotype?"

From the thumbnail I assumed it was like, you stood on it facing with your leg propped up like the Captain Morgan logo and that moved you. Until I saw how you ACTUALLY move with it I was totally on board with it because that sounds hilarious/stupid instead of just stupid/stupid.

Hmmm if only there were some way to work out in water. Maybe a way that gives both your arms and legs a workout and is, more-or-less, free.

Honestly that does look like it'd beat the hell out of your calves and quads in a good way, but... so would literally swimming, which is cheaper and also probably has less potential for looking like a moron (not me though i swim like a housecat).

I picture their design evolution as follows:

1) "Let's make a device that's lightweight you can stand on and travel across water, like a motorized surfboard!"
2) "Standing sideways is way too unstable at slow speeds, let's make you face forward!"
3) "You can't steer in any appreciable way without falling off sideways, let's make it a raised and sloped design to steer!"
4) "Standing forward adds way too much drag from the water so it's slow as gently caress and really tiring, let's call it a workout device!"

I would love to see early prototype videos of people flying backwards off models with a more powerful motor, however.

Lol this one is hilariously sad. They got 20 dollars and then the maker cancelled the project the day before it would've ended just so he could stop it before it changed to "unsuccessful".

Isn't water, especially water churned by a tow boat, particularly lovely for ground effect? And it's not a "technology", dammit. It's a phenomenon that increases lift and decreases the stall velocity of a fixed wing.

Why would you think that? Water is so much denser than air that it's essentially a solid boundary and ground effect isn't really sensitive to the smoothness of the surface. Hence ekranoplans.

That said, I'm all for making fun of this idea. It looks incredibly dangerous and inherently unstable. Also, the winglets are redundant if it's actually functioning as a ground-effect vehicle! I suspect virtually no actual analysis has gone into that awful thing.
