freelop posted:I hear that, I've had it a few times that people have been so close to me that their headlights are below my line of sight. They're not tailgating until you can't see their hood in your mirror. It's especially fun when you've passed them because they were doing 55 in a 70, then they speed up to 80 and ride your rear end so close that you can barely see the top of their dash. I get that the rake of my back window + the (small factory) spoiler makes it a bit more difficult for me to see out, but I've tapped my brakes just enough to flash the lights and watched them swerve hard onto the shoulder. Enourmo posted:Grilling is always a good standby if that's an option. Marinade of choice (I'm a fan of teriyaki, maybe with a sliced habenero if I'm not cooking for my mom), slap it skin side down on a demon-hot oiled grill, cook about 5minutes, then flip and cook another 10-15 minutes. All of the suggestions are good, but you got my attention with teriyaki and habanero. And I have a drat nice 2 burner gas grill with a built-in 2 burner gas range (i.e. full cooking outside). Ignitor doesn't work on any of them, but that's why they invented long matches (it's also how I manage to lose half my arm hair once or twice a year, despite lighting the match before turning on the gas). If I hadn't taken some benadryl about 15 minutes ago (I use it as a sleeping pill), I'd run up to the grocery store and do the habanero teriyaki salmon right now. My big thing is I've only cooked fish a couple of times, so I'm always super paranoid. I found what looks to be a good recipe for "sweet corn chowder with hot smoked salmon", so no real cooking necessary beyond cooking up some veggies. I love corn chowder, I love salmon, so win win, aside from my cholesterol.

Cakefool posted:Honestly salmon grilled for 20 minutes sounds like it'll be dry, is it? The 15-20 minutes is just a general guide, especially for people who are touchy about food being less than well done. Personally I figure medium-medium well freshly bought salmon is as safe or safer than pure sushi, I'll eat mine at any done-ness. That said, a good marinade definitely helps with the moisture, as does flipping it after getting grill marks on the skin so that the fat will melt and drip down into the meat. Also, it's a case where the hotter your grill the better, as the inside will get cooked to temp before the outside has time to get tough (just like steak!) Like anything, perfection comes with experience. E: The great thing about salmon is that its flavor will stand on its own, but it's also strong enough not to be drowned out by other flavors, so you can pair it with just about anything.

Gonna try posting this with the new app..hope I don't break tables again. Got that last Friday. I was behind a late '90s Blazer with a dent in the lower left rear bumper. At no time did I ever go over 30. Thankfully it's just a warning, but I still feel cheesed off anyway. I was stopped, very literally, on the street that my home site is on. Just felt very arbitrary to me, I KNOW I wasn't speeding. Fume over. In other news, Fury Road is tits, I bought new pads and rotors along with a set of 6 ton jackstands and we're supposed to have a clear weekend. Life could be worse.

Holy poo poo, just came back from a spin in a '01 996. Second Porsche I ever drove, and the first one was a low-tier Cayenne. Coming from the land devoid of exotics, this is a fairly big deal. Belongs to a consultant we've hired in. We went to kick the tires, and he casually asked whether I wanted to take it for a spin. I had to insist he came along. That's the awesomest way to own a cool car.

STR, take this from someone that thought they were depressed for two years because they were using benadryl as a sleeping pill: step one: no caffeine after noon step two: switch to melatonin You'll be far less groggy the next day. I thought I was living in a haze for years because of loving using benadryl to sleep. Cut that poo poo out.

http://www.nigella.com/recipes/view/mirin-glazed-salmon-21 Ive made this one before and my god is it good. Simple as poo poo to make too. Had some dunce at work today who watched us backing a truck and float out of a narrow work site into a car park, walked past us, got into her car, backed out of the carpark and drove right up behind the float as we were about 80% out of the site. I wasnt going to go back in just so she could get in front of us, she can wait the 30 seconds it would take me to go back another 10 meters and drive out of the carpark. This apparently offended her because she decided to tailgate me the entire way out of the car park and down the road for about 3kms. In a pissy little Barina, behind a 6T truck with a 3T float and bobcat behind us. Cracked the shits with her being right up my arse at the 3km mark and flicked the electric trailer brake controller to fully on while standing on the loud pedal- locked both trailer tyres without slowing down at all. She got the message, or had to stop and clean her undies out cos she backed RIGHT off after that.

Quit using sleep pills and medication as a sleeping pill, my brother got into the same habit and it took him a long time to be able to sleep without taking something. Once he weaned off the sleeping pills he started taking melatonin and has been happy with it though he insists on having a drink or two every night before bed. I've been using melatonin as needed for a year or so and like it. Updated my phone to lollipop last night since it's been bugging me to do it for the last week or so. Not bad and seems to be working, we'll see how the battery life compares. Where the hell did my cards or whatever go though? I used to swipe right at the lock screen to get cards showing weather, appointments, travel stuff and it was really handy. Now swiping right opens the phone app...wtf? Then the police budgets were slashed and they never had the money to maintain them, so there's big yellow speed cameras in and around the city that are mere ornaments. What's even better is that when they were first being installed in the states, a few enterprising people figured out a couple of things: 1. The enclosure wasn't locked 2. The camera inside was a high end, full frame Canon DSLR body 3. The used camera market is extremely lucrative

I found a couple on Cooking Light and Health, but most of what I'm finding looks pretty boring. Fancy poo poo is for lesser fishes.

There's a shitload of em for less than 200kkr here, and a couple below 150kkr. Just don't learn what IMS means.

This. Salmon only need to be cooked with butter, a bit of oil, and at the most a slice of lemon. It tastes great without slathering it in marinades. I grew up and live in BC. In certain places salmon is pretty much all you ever catch.

Yup, please stop doing bad stuff to good fish. That is assuming that you can get actually good salmon where you are and not the poo poo farmed stuff. I grew up spoiled as poo poo with the quality of salmon we had, seeing as we lived in Seattle and spent the summers working on my dad's salmon tender in southeast alaska, so I kinda still hate salmon after handling hundreds of thousands of pounds of the stuff over the years.
