That sort of thing would scare the crap out of me. Merchandising is going to plateau at some point where everyone who wants a t-shirt will have bought a t-shirt. I can't imagine they're getting that many new sales these days. Maybe I'm totally wrong though. Shirts from places like this never fit me right, they're always really short on me for some reason. If they had coffee mugs with their "I am the hype" Vegeta on it, I'd own one in a heartbeat. I found this one online but I'm a little leery of it.. not sure how legit it is. http://www.redbubble.com/people/ichafazari/works/14570096-i-am-the-hype?p=mug&style=tall

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm reasonably convinced they're not the original artist on any of them, and I'd advise against it.

They made it clear that the Patreon would not speed up the production of DBZA. Will it? Having Kaiser focus on it as his primary occupation will very likely increase his production speed. Why did they say that? So people don't expect it to speed up so, if it doesn't, they won't get flak for failing to live up to their promises. Being able to speed up production just because you have more time and money isn't guaranteed. It's easier to guarantee more content especially if you say it in vague terms, like they did. What I mean is that they are, cleverly, protecting their reputation.

Well, there are two reasons to decouple the patreon from DBZA. First off, legal issues. Without an official licensing agreement, they can't profit off of DBZA without tempting a lawsuit. Even if they could win the suit, it'd be ruinously expensive nonetheless. Second, lots of Patreon folks promise more/faster content at reward tiers and then find themselves unable to deliver, and then the Patreon support dries up. Avoiding the suggestion that money impacts DBZA in the first place avoids problems.

Avoiding the suggestion that money impacts DBZA in the first place avoids problems. ...However, this is a much better answer to the reason they released the press statements as they did and I was being dumb for forgetting that they can't profit from DBZA directly. Brain farts happen. It also bleeds into why they promise new, original content because they can profit off of that legally. Though, their choice of doing a FF7 Abridged Series is kind of muddying the waters on that notion, I think.

The way they word things is that the patreon funds would not directly affect DBZA, and go toward their expansion and upcoming projects. Though obviously this kind of income will make DBZA easier to have happen. But there's not a lot that can speed up video editing apart from getting better at it and/or spending literally all your time doing it. So as speaking as an outsider with no actual insight to their lives or work it seems to me that the patreon money won't speed Kaiser up but it will help prevent things from slowing him down.

Divide it into more than two and it's only about American minimum wage - which is to say, not a loving lot. Personally, I feel like there's a lot of ways the money could benefit TFS that might not make themselves manifest in obviously shortened waits between episodes. To be honest, I think the monthly DBZA with lots of fun, low-effort stuff is a pretty good pace to keep anyway, it's just that real life stuff combined with the huge loving project HOTA was that made them break from that.

I am curious, with the last of Dragon Ball Z Kai airring in Japan soon, will it still include the final section with the time jump with Pan and Uub? Because with Battle of the Gods, Revival of F, and Super Dragon Ball, it's really hard to fit that part in anymore.

There've been a few years of peace, BotG and RoF may have had threats to the world but things wrapped up nicely by the end of the day, and it's been around four years since Goku last hung out with his regular pals and decided to be Grandpa Goku for a change. Pan was already in BotG and RoF (and babysat by Grunkle Piccolo no less ), Uub showing up has been in the end credits of Kai's Buu arc which clearly are trying to show that ending bit is going to happen. Unless Super is set between RoF and meeting Uub and changes things dramatically, things kinda match up nicely. And there's as good a chance Super will be post-Tournament as it will be set before it.

Not sure what you think American minimum wage is but it's 7.25 which comes out to $1160 every 4 weeks, $10000 is still quite a large amount of money to most people.

Trip report: saw Revival of F. It was amazingly fun. All of the characters people actually give a poo poo about were in the movie and got to do things, and all the annoying characters were not. The way everything plays out seems like a real love letter to the fans - like what fans actually want - more Tribeam and not more fuckin' Broly or whatever. Oh yeah, and the movie has metal riffs throughout, Maximum the Hormone's "F" is featured in an awesome way, and when I was watching Goku punch Freeza to the sound of metal, I realized that maybe all of us original DBZ soundtrack advocates might be wrong - maybe the Faulconer soundtrack is indeed closer to the creator's original intentions. Sadly I was only one of four people in the showing and it was a Friday afternoon. when Goku taps out and Vegeta joins the fight, Goku says "thank you" in English (well, more like "sank you"). What are the implications of that, would a Japanese person see that as being cheeky and irreverent?
