Anyone know of a homebrew type solution to secure a steering wheel without buying an sim racing chair? I have my wheel bolted to some repurposed ikea furniture and this worked great with my old 360 wheel. With the fanatec though it's another story.. stronger FFB and cranking the wheel quickly to recover from slides means my hack wobbles a lot and it really messes with the driving.

Is there a SA thread for sim nerds that talks about this stuff that I don't know about?

So really the failure of this game is it doesn't simulate corner crews accurately. I want a refund. :colbert:

Also I get that Monaco is a "tradition" but goddamn that place is a terrible place for a race, considering the speeds modern cars are capable of.

"Classic Monaco pile-up" is what they're calling it. That is unsettling as gently caress if you ask me.

Also, you could probably stick the name "Goons_drive_legit_Formula_cars_at_Monaco.avi" or similar. Point still stands: Monaco a good track.

Yeah, it hasn't really impressed me as being any better than any other racing game. I quit an invitational yesterday because I couldn't get even a vaguely clean lap even in practice. Guys just cutting the poo poo out of corners and then plowing into me when they reenter the track, getting slammed into while passing... It was way worse than even playing with noobs online.

I was impressed early on because cars seemed to respect your track space and wouldn't intentionally side swipe you if you had the inside line going into a corner but the more I play the more the cracks are showing. I lost a race yesterday because going into a corner a car turned right into me and we both ended up spinning out. Combine that with blue flag warnings when there are no cars anywhere near you and the game being seemingly unable to handle the data of a 30 car race (I once was ranked 1st of 19 in a 30 car race where I finished 6th) there are a lot of problems that really need sorting out. I've been warned about track cutting when on the first corner of out laps, had other cars completely lose their collision detection and drive right through me and multiple times seen cars completely disappear when exiting the pits. To my mind some of these aren't small little bugs and I'd have expected at least some updates to try and fix stuff this long after release.

I found that it is almost impossible to take a slowish in a practice/qualifying race weekend without trying to wait for the right moment after the pit clears but before the AI starts its full lap. If you try to brake early because your tires are cold the computer will just smash into your back every single time.

You likely finished 6th due to time penalties.

The AI needs some work, but for the most part I'm pretty happy.

I've started lots of races at the back of the grid just to see how the AI reacts to me working my way into a 20 to 30 car pack. The game does wheel to wheel really well, they defend and generally respect my line. When I get rammed, a lot of the time it's my fault for being to agressive, or trying really risky late breaking.

I've had a few wtf moments, but I bet a lot of the AI complaints are just due to poo poo driving.

Yeah, there are definitely incidents where it's completely my fault, but there are a lot where, say, I'll be passing clean on a straight and the car I'm passing just slams into me. Or the AI hurtles off track and into the gravel, but just cuts straight through (without losing speed) and wham, I get t-boned.

Strictly anecdotal, but it seems to happen more with road cars than anything else. Open wheel, LMP seem better about avoiding that stuff. Even the invitational I did with the Renault Megane was a slam-fest.

No, I finished 6th on the track (I could see the 5 in front of me) but in the post race results screen and on the HUD it said I was 1st.

While we're on things I'd like to see I want a single season option, just pick a discipline and play through the season outside the career mode.

Had a cool qualifying like that. 1st few laps I set a top 10 time, but then it started raining and I had to switch to rain tires. Couldn't set a better time with the rain falling. Thankfully it stopped and I had time to pull into the pits, get racing slicks, get them warmed up with a lap, and get 1 lap in before qualifying end. Ended up with the pole with that last lap.

Are you sure it wasn't a multi-class race? When I did the 24 Hour Le Mans, there was 30 cars (as shown in practice/qualifying), but the actual race only had 7 LMP1 cars that formed my racing group, despite 30 on the track. Sounds like it was multi-class and you had 19 in your class and it was working as intended.

This is more or less my experience. AI ramming me when I don't invade their blind spot abruptly isn't crazy common (see: was also the cause of one of those real life Monaco accidents and plenty of other auto racing crashes). If anything I rather like that AI behaves realistically enough to do occasionally dumb aggressive things like late braking to try and pass and make actual mistakes that allow passing/cause AI exclusive incidents.

All that said, they do need to touch up AI with respect to multi-class races because there's no reason they shouldn't get the hell out of the way for a faster class of vehicle that they aren't even racing against.

Yeah. The AI needs to respect blue flags instead of acting like it doesn't exist. And, they are loving superman in the wet.

EdEddnEddy

The AI for the most part has been reasonably good, and even appears to learn the track a bit as a race progresses, however in the Rain they really need to be toned down a notch to brake a bit earlier then they are. So often they will break later than me, ramming into me, and all of them piling up after overshooting a hairpin turn in the rain.

Besides that, they race like I would expect assholes that are in it to win it would race for the most part.

This is accurate. AND when they get bumped off the track, they miraculously don't lose it and somehow come straight back onto the track without batting an eye. Meanwhile, I've somehow done 45 flips in the air and land in another continent.

Known bug that it is pretty absurd SMS hasn't hotfixed the poo poo out of three weeks on. There are bugs that crop up that need to be fast tracked to fixing because of how dramatically they impact the fun of your players: this is, without a doubt, one of those.

I guess while we're talking about AI issues: we can't forget to mention they often forget how to reverse and if they get stuck nose-first into a wall they will often just be stuck there, gassing it into a wall until the end of the session (practice, qualifying, or race).

Yah AI unaffected in the wet or going off track is a huge deal. They're generally aware of the player and will back off given enough time to "see" the player. Man, I really love PCARS. It has some quality of life issues like HUD edits not being saved, a crummy photo mode, and other things. The core gameplay is just so loving rewarding though.
