WTF is Warpack anyway? Far as I can tell its just a bunch of poo poo like lasers and aimbots.

It's a pack of obnoxiously poor mods that gives pubbie shitters a level of situational awareness approaching that of even the most modest of blues. Ultimately, though, they're still pubbies and so it is utterly wasted on them. There are maybe two or three actually kind of unfair features in the whole thing, the rest can be replicated through having a functional brain and using your eyes to look at the screen.

The only one is the vegetation one and the show where arty fired from. I remember a good number of patches ago, you could see arty tracers while driving tanks. Im pretty sure if right now I could see arty positions, it would be amazingly and hilariously unfair as I snipe them from across the map.

Some of the more unfair mods easily available (just google for them if you really want them) include: - Aimbot. Don't be a scrub and you don't need this. - Over target marker reload timers/shells remaining in autoloader clip. This one is/was included in Aslain's modpack. Doesn't give you any info you can't figure out yourself but it certainly makes it easier to have good situational awareness. - Blind shooting hit indicator. Tells you if a blind shot hit something or not. I think it's banned but I don't really understand why, usually you can see your shell impact against the ground so it shouldn't really give you any extra info. - Tundra/"hedge trimmer". Turns vegetation on/off with a button press. Definitely unfair, wriggling your reticule around trying to find a part of a tank silhouette is pretty frustrating and the mod completely removes that annoyance. - Various tracer mods/"lasers". Tells you where people are shooting and usually - by color coding - with what ammo too. Sorta handy for situational awareness but not really a big deal. I don't think it can tell you the location of unspotted tanks because the server just doesn't tell you about those, but it's still banned. - Turret direction indicators. Tells you on the minimap where people are looking. Is in in Aslain's modpack. Again, just a situational awareness crutch. - Destroyed objects indicator. Tells you on the minimap where someone knocked down trees/destructible objects, regardless if they were spotted or not when they did. Definitely unfair since it gives you information about unspotted tanks that you wouldn't otherwise have. Can be worked around if you are aware of it though (don't knock down destructible objects). I've also heard talk about an "xray" mod but I don't know what it does. Show tank internals so you know where to shoot for module crits, maybe? See through buildings? Dunno. Not a huge deal anyway. Some of the banned mods are kind of hilarious just in how stupid they are, like one of the "laser pointer" mods is literally just really long red poles attached to the tank barrels that show where they point.

I used this for a little bit because it gave me a nice FPS boost. It is TOTALLY SUPER UNFUCKINGFAIR TO USE. Any hesitation you might of had for taking a shot is totally removed by the ability to see how much/how little of a tank is actually there. Quicker reaction times can make or break how well you do, this mod totally gave you an advantage. I uninstalled it a long time ago because it made the game too ugly. Shooting the dirt instead of tanks is part of the game. I feel like most other top players I know use very few mods. I only use scope shadow removal, map mod (to see LKP of tanks and my view range), and that stat tracker mod. Did they fix server side reticle in game?

Mesadoram posted:Did they fix server side reticle in game? If you mean dual reticules (client/server) then no, you still need a mod for that. I have it (er, had it in 9.7) but I have very low ping to begin with so it's only really useful in arty where for some reason the server and the client tends to disagree a lot about aim bloom. Other than the tundra mod (which I agree is really scummy) and the destroyed objects indicator, I don't really think any of the other mods are really all that special. Some of them can give you a small edge or help you with your situational awareness but they won't make a bad player any significantly better. Even the unfair ones aren't enough to make a huge difference either. They do give you an advantage though. McGavin posted:You're not looking in the right places. I don't have the top gun on it yet, just the top turret with the 2nd gun... The top gun looks like it handles a lot nicer. There's no real reason I don't get on with the tank to be honest, I just don't seem to get many great games in it like I do the russians and earlier american heavies. The first 120 is very nice for the XP investment, particularly after having the stock tank come with the T29's 105. The top 120 is indeed a further improvement; when you eventually get it you'll really appreciate the tank. But I'm not sure if I should generally, say, stay back and support the heavies, stay towards the front, etc. How should I be playing this tank? No armor, accurate gun, decent mobility, slow aim time. You really can't get hit, so play at long range where your shots will still be able to hit (due to the excellent accuracy) and you have time to aim without getting hit. Blindeye posted:Nothing but tier VII games for my poor tier V tanks, feels like I'm chum for the sharks...still getting at least some shots in when I shoot gold. Some days are like that. I've been having great sessions recently but the last time I played we were getting bottom-tiered 3 matches in a row. Then one top-tier game, followed by 3 more bottom-tier. The KV-1S is arguably better than the KV-1 if you prefer mobility (which I do.) The T-34's gun is a peashooter, but at least it's accurate and has high-pen APCR (I hope you're using the 57 mm.) The M4 is OK with either the 105 or 76; the latter is a particularly mediocre 3" gun but it's usable on a tier 5 vehicle (and has decent APCR as well.) All of the tanks mentioned are solid-to-great for tier 5. CompeAnansi posted:It seems like the main feature of 9.8 is that all the 9.7 replays no longer work... The replay system is rather annoying. This happens with every patch. Since the replays run in the game engine any changes to it generally break old replays. Occasionally you'll have a situation where an old replay will run but you'll have tanks float on maps where they've flattened out the terrain (e.g. Redshire.) Mesadoram posted:Wait they added LKP to the basic interface? That is a step in the right direction! They've been slowly adding features we've all been using in mods for the past 3 years.
