I really was kinda hoping for a control mode where I could just use my pro controller and just touch the gamepad propped up nearby for jumps, much like how I used the gamepad map in MK8. I dunno if anyone else is like this but I play with controllers at a generally low position, so as a result I cannot see poo poo on the gamepad screen during gameplay, and thus all the information displayed on it is lost to me being forced to use it as the controller.

If you mean the list of NES-style minigames tied to each amiibo:quote:Inkling Girl: "Squidball" The Splatoon amiibo don't have specific functionality outside of Splatoon, just generic "tap any amiibo for an extra life in Captain Toad"-type fluff.

Got the game last night. Been playing it off and on for a few hours and I'm up to rank 6 now. It's pretty fun but I kinda wish there was, you know, more to do. Having only five maps at the start kinda sucks; I've seen them all now. And trying to organize matches with friends is such a pain in the rear end. At least the servers have been holding up okay, only a few disconnects so far. Hope that it stays good.

DIgital copy goes live soon, and a few hours into the day anyone who gets a copy that didn't break street date is also getting it. Expect online to just not work until work / school and then when it gets out to not work again until probably Monday, it should even out around that time. That is how most hyped multiplayer games go. You know a game is hyped when you are at a bar and it gets mentioned.

If I buy the game through Nintendo's web browser eshop store from work tomorrow does it automatically start downloading to my WiiU? That seems to be what their site is indicating but I wanna be sure

Squid girl created You can do a test run of any weapons you own or weapons in the shop, that's nice. Also when you go to go online, if you select 'recon' you can check out the maps with no enemies, so you can take some time to look around and get familiar with the layout and learn the sight lines and stuff. One thing I'm learning right out of the gate: I'm way, way better at covering turf than fighting people. I'm sucking rear end at fighting people right now. The game's a blast! Glad I got into it.
